Am I missing something here? If you set the Cache to 500 MB, it shouldn't be any larger, right? Common sense tells me when it reaches the 500 MB limit, it would start to delete older files.

So why does it appear as this:

Or is this just another example of "wonderful" programming skills?

i am guessing that the extra size is stuff like the "names" file and the "textures" file which get append-ed until you remove them

where as the 500mb section is for 500mb of geometry texture and sounds

course the "size on disk" part is how much disk space windows is forced to use to save the data on your current format, and doesnt represent actual file size

if you want to know more about that id be glad to go on and on and on and on and on and on about how that works

It depends very much on the sector size of your HD's format. As each sector holds a specific quantity of data, if the packet of data is apended at the end of a file, but doesn't fill the whole sector, the next file will begin a new sector, therefore wasting space. SL's cache holds 1,000's of files, so each partially empty sector begins to mount up. Add to that the index files created by XP (I turn mine off) for faster searching. There are also some system files stored in the same directories as the cache which would account for additional space required over and above the cache set size.
