Has anyone recently experienced spontaneous unlinkiing of a build? I transferred ownership of three on-site-setup homes to a client the other day. Builds where I hade fine-tuned the positioning on the land and landscaped around them prior to handing it over. When I set them for sale, the houses were linked together properly. All the client did was to buy each linkset. I went back the next day, to double-check permissions on a couple of the furniture items in each home and replace some that had accidentally not been set to +copy +mod. On inspection, I found that major sections of all three of the houses were unlinked. WTF?
Three houses, on three seperate plots of land in the same sim. None were right on the edge of the sim. All three had un-linked all the parts of one large linkset in the build. For two of the homes, the main section of house itself unlinked, but the furnishings inside it remained normal linksets, as did the two sections of deck around it. For the third home, which was an expanded version of the first design, with an additional building and surrounding deck section, the smaller of the two structures completely unlinked, while the decks and the main house were fine.
I've replaced all three homes, and the new copies seem fine... So far... Strange.

Happen if you resize something and it stays linked till you actually pick it up and drop it again, then it isnt, i made a board once that was impossible to link at max size 80x80m, resized it to tiny, linked, then blow it up to full size, worked, till i actually moved it into inventory and back out = unlinked

You might find a product like Rez-Faux useful. It lets you group together huge builds that are too big to link into one unit, and position and rotate them by moving only a single object.

I've had this problem before... Once it seemed we were plagued by it after first our house became unlinked... Then the Tiki hut... It was insane... Just figured it was one of SL's little dealios... Dunno how to fix it...

Had this happen again, and tracked it down a bit more... I built an 80-prim bungalo. Not very big, but close to the linkng limit, with a walkway extending out in one direction, and a boat dock extending in another direction. Probably the distance from the center of the outermost walkway prim to the center of the boat dock prim was 25 M or so. Yet I had the main structure, about 68 prims, all linked together. I think I linked it initially as 4 parts - the walkway, the dock, the roof, and the rest of the bungalo - and then I linked those together, selecting the bungalo last. It linked OK, and I picked it up into inventory. I moved 20 meters down the beach, and tried to rez a copy of the bungalo. It rezzed, but the entire bungalo was unlinked! I tried selecting all the pieces and linking them, and got that 'Link failed - Pieces too far apart' error message. The original was sitting right beside it, happily linked. But the copy rezzed from inventory wouldn't remain linked. I finally solved it by going back to 2 pieces for the bungalo - Keeping the walkway and it's railing as a seperate linkset. Also, I got a copy of Builders Buddy. Similar to Rez-Foo and RezFaux and that ilk. It ROCKS!. One script per linkset or loose object, and one in the rez box. Allows me to rez a build, rotate it, move it, and clean it off the site, as well as having a command to remove the scripts from the pieces of the build. Doesn't rotate or move the whole build in real-time, like the higher-priced options. But hey, it's free! I'll eventually invest in one of the higher-priced, more feature-rich building packagers, like Rez-Foo. But for now, Builder's Buddy is my new 'best friend' in my building work.
