A Newer Graphics Card

Hey all!
I am here with my friend and I just bought her a PCI
GeForce 6200OC for her P.O.S computer.
I have been dying to get her in SL with me and this seemed to be the only way. We tried my old PGA card, but it didn't fit.

Anyway, my point here is, I still cannot get her in SL.
It keeps telling me, it cannot resolve the domain name. That doesn't seem like something to do with the graphics card...then again I am totally lame and never have a clue what I am talking about...

Ok so some quick answers here would be appreciated...I NEED to get her in here! hehehe

well if it is you can check in the bios, not that it really should matter look for these options

Enable First Video Device or something along those lines, choices are AGP/PCI it needs to be on PCI

Enable IRQ or Video (again that or something simmilar), if its a conflict you can tell it no, and it could clear that up

Depending on the bios version ect it may or may not have those
and really between bios and windows, conflicts are rare.

or
If theres other PCI cards in the machine you can try moving them around in different slots, if theres alot of biult on the mother board stuff move the video card around.

But to me it sounds like a networking error, has the machine been on SL before? if not think about Routers and or Firewalls

Yeah I am trying to figure out what to do about this network thing. My friend here has Norton AV and I so want to uninstall it, but I will not do so, since this is not my PC.

This will be the first time this computer will be on SL. She was unable to get into it before, because of her lack if a Graphics Card. I went out and spent my money, so she could play with me and I am a little annoyed at it right now.

I just got a new PGA Card on Thursday, and I installed it fine, just like I did this one. Anyway....I am gonna try to uninstall one more time, reboot and get out of here. hehe I need to get home.

First thing that I reccomend with that error message is a re-install, but it seems like its probably something bigger.

Is the PC connected through a router? Wireless? Firewall?

Anything else that might not be up to scratch? RAM?

yes there is a router on this PC, but I don't know what I have to do. it's not going to work with that in there?

It does work, it just sometimes brings up complications, and sometimes its just specific models, let me find the wiki page..

well I am not entirely sure what to do now. If I cannot get her in SL at all, then I am just going to take this Graphics Card back to the store. No use in her keeping it, if SL is the only reason I got it for her.

PS. I am on my way home now....where MY SL works lol

It may well work, there just could be several things temoarily stopping her playing

Router/Wireless/Firewall/RAM/etc..

I'm not as techy as I like to believe tho, probably better to wait 'till someone who knows what they're talking about comes long

make shure there is not a firmware update for the router

check whoever made its website all the info you need should be on the bottom router itself

a new computer wouldnt help if the router is blocking it

Likely may just be a simple matter of rebooting the modem and router. Turn the computer, router and modem off then turn on the modem, wait for it to boot (lights will indicate its ready) then turn on the router then when it lights up, boot the computer. Try turning off your firewall and see if SL loads, if it does you need to configure it to work with SL. You also should make sure the old video drivers are completely removed as they can cause problems.
