I use a Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook with integrated audio for SL. The sounds and streaming music from SL work fine through the built-in speakers. Sound from SL does not come from my Logitech USB external speakers. These external speakers work fine with all other sources--Real Player, Windows Media Player, etc. Would appreciate any tips. TIA.

The problem lay, incase you were wondering or if someone searches this, in that the speakers (or mic) are USB. Audio output from soundcards is only output through the speakers/audio jacks directly connected to the sound card. A set of USB speakers/headphones or mic actually have their OWN sound card. (So people who shell out for a good sound card and use USB headphones/speakers etc, are just wasting their money). Now windows has the ability to use multiple sound cards, but only one is the default. When you installed Winamp, you probably changed the default from your on-board sound card to the USB one. This can be done manually in Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices.

External Notebook Speakers Don't Work With SL

Thanks for the info. Very good to know. I checked in Control Panel and the external speakers are the default sound card when they are connected to USB. Internal speakers are off when external are plugged in.
