ACK! Crashed Again!? I Swear its Not ME! Help

UUgghh!! Ok heres the deal. Ever since the last update, everytime I open up my World Map I crash. At first I thought it was something I was doing wrong, but theres not much one can do wrong just by opening ones map and hitting teleport. Then I thought it was the location I was at. Since it seemed that everytime I crashed from opening my map, I just happened to be at home. So I tested that theory. And that was not the case either. No matter where I am or what location I happen to be, EVERY SINGLE time I open my map crash and its REALLY STARTING TO FUSTERATE ME!!!! I mean i cant reference the map for anything. And it really sucks =( cuz I'm looking to buy some more land and like to check out/see where its located at first before I just head on out there. Ya know.? So now, I've come to ya'll MIGHTY, KNOWING & WISE SL Techs & any Senior SL Members who might have an answer that could help me in figuring this out. Or any1 who might wanna put their 2cents in =p...LOL
Of course I guess I should have reported this as a bug, and sat around and waited for a responce, but I'll admit I'm NOT a very patient Gal...lol...& figured some1 here could reply faster. Any info regarding this matter would be GREATLY appreciated!! =)

You tried clearing cache?, if you got a corrupted map download it'll crash you instant

In SL > Edit - Preference - Network - Clear Cache,

Or do it in login screen before you enter SL.

I clean my cache every day...before I log in and after I log out and even have done it during the game...doesnt help. I have even gone as far as uninstalling and reinstalling SL to no avail.

HHrrmmm, ok ok I know ya'll have lots of threads to go thru, read and give advice to. But I was wondering is there ANYONE out there that might HAVE THE SLIGHTEST CLUE as to how to help me correct my problem?? Anyone?? I dont know what else to do or what else to try.??

Yes, stop trying to run Second Life. That is the primary cause of client crashes.

I only wish I was being snide. This is the most craptastic code that I've ever seen anyone have the audacity to charge people to use. It isn't you, it is that Linden Lab is full of a bunch of morons who are incapable of making their program work and are stuck in some serious denial and love to blame the customer for their failings.

Three years out in general distribution and it crashes regularly on a significant proportion of machines that is allegedly supports. When it doesn't crash, it doesn't work as it is claimed to. There was to be another bug fix patch yesterday but they delayed it because even that was broken beyond even their ability to release with a straight face.

Run away before it is too late. Hope that helps.

Run Away?? LOL....well as easy as that may sound its not that simple...this is where i RUN TOO, when my day is done. Or just want to get away from the hussel and bussel of rl. Besides, running away isnt gonna solve this problem. I'm sure it will still remain there till the next poor lil avie comes along and has the same problem. Nah running away doesnt solve anything.

Ok!! SERIOUSLY NOW, you mean to tell me that there is NO-1 else that has experienced the same or similar problem that I am having w/my World Map?? Or that NO-1 has any advice as to what I can do to correct this issue?? Gwad!!! I seriously find that hard to believe. HHrrmm, is there a TECH or SOME-1 that could at least tell me if something/a problem like this has already been reported as a bug? Beacuse I would hate to submit it as a bug if it has already been submitted like 5 times. Heck even once or twice would be redundant. I am a paying resident just like the majority of SL, just trying to either expand, begin a business or even acquire a new home. But, because of this problem I'm begining to feel as if I am NOT GETTING MY $$ WORTH. Because its a feature that should be available to every resident regardless if they have a FREE BASIC OR PREMIUM ACCOUNT. Cause I'm sure ya'll would find it just as fusterating as I am to not be able to access your World Map w/out crashing. It seriously puts a damper on searching for new land.
And NO.......RUNNING AWAY or STOP TRYING TO RUN SL is not an option. All that does is hinder the problem further because it would mean that it would not get fixed, looked into or corrected. Besides, I have grown to love my SL life & friends I have made.
SO PLEASE....Im asking once again for some type of SERIOUS advice or HELP!

Clear both your SL cache AND your temporary internet files and cookies.

It may also help to turn off restore points, that's one of the most random-bug causing issues with WINXP.

~~SIGHS~~ I do that every day and even EVERY SINGLE TIME I crash as a result of trying to access my World Map. I have even went as far as rebooting my system.

Exactly why you should report it as a bug. You're a paying customer. REPORT REPORT REPORT! Call LL!! I don't know the number off the top of my head (I've never called), but it's worth a shot. Just make sure you call with in their working hours :)

I'm really sorry you are having these problems. I use my map constantly, and with a problem like yours, it would drive me BONKERS! In all seriousness though, I've never heard of this happening to anyone else. GOOD LUCK!

LOL...yes you are right Heather, thnkx. Just trying to use that as a last resort. Only because they have you try/do an array of things on my part making it seem as if it if MY FAULT or the FAULT of my system for not being able to access SL or resources in SL.

Oh man I can see what direction this is going to lead too. But here goes nuffing. This is the system that I run. Mind you I HAVE NO OTHER PROBLEMS aside from CRASHING WHEN I OPEN THE IN WORLD MAP. Other than that I run and zoom thru SL with no problems.

I suppose that you'd better have it at least 512MB RAM to go along without trouble and 1GB RAM in decent comfort.

well i agree, but i think LL has dropped the ball, if they are gonna require a min of 256mb of memory it should run, not great mind you it is the min req, but it should run without crashes.

Kinda defeats the reasoning of having a min reqirement that low if it cant do its basic functions

but ram is cheap, you can get a 1gb strip (ddr 400mhz) for about 80 bucks, your probally running 266 or 333 which gets cheaper, and you could keep both the new and the old stick for a total of 1.25gb without wasting money for fast ram, when your old ram would just slow it down (ohh 66mhz)

with compaq, and their weird bios you cant just look at a setting and tell what speed it is, you could do a seach on the model, you could yank the ram out and read the sticker, but they used to be pains about that, just giving you a compaq part number, which you had to look up.

or just get some pc3200 ram and donate the 256mb strip to your church, maby get a tax break

Thnkx guys and yes i do have 512mb of ram to go along with that. So now you see why I cant seem to figure out what the heck the problem is.? Besides I know that my system is up to par cuz i have submitted a previous problem directly to Tech support. Sent them specs & all and my system checked out according to them. So there should be no rason for me to go out and purchase anything else to add to my system. I somehow believe it is STRICKLY an In World problem. Since I have only had this problem w/the 1.8.3 upgrade. Never before. So now I'm just gonna sit back a bit and kinda wait for Wednesdays update. If once installed, and the problem continues, Is when I will begin giving TECH SUPPORT long drag out HEADACHES till the problem is corrected!!! So just in case ur watching Tech Support lets hope this upgrade corrects the probelm. =D
