Hi! This isn't really an SL-specific problem, but I know someone can point me in the right direction.
I need to add a second IDE hard drive to my PC, which currently contains a 80GB IDE c drive, and a Plextor Premium CD-R writer.
What's the best IDE configuration for my new setup, which will be:
- 80GB c: drive (Windows and programs) - 200GB d: drive (Documents, photos, DV data) - CD-R (rarely used, just the occasional Red Book CD
Thank you!

The 200 gig drive is probably faster so you will want to install windows on it. Put it as primary master, with the old HD as primary slave, and the CDRW as secondary master. Leave your old windows installation on the 80 gig HD untouched - that way if something goes wrong with your new drive, you will be able to boot off your old HD to fix it

The 200GB *is* faster, but I have been told that it's very important to have DV video record/replay on the non-Windows drive, otherwise I could end up with dropped frames...?

If you want to use the 200GB for DV recording and playback, put it on a different controller than the C: drive. IDE Controller 0: Master C drive and Slave CD-R IDE Controller 1: Master 200GB HD This way Windows is always working from on one controller and most data transfer's being handling by a completely different controller.

That sounds pretty sensible!
I read somewhere about the possibility that CD-R drives can slow down a hard drive on the same bus.
Is there anything I need to do in order to avoid my CD-R slowing the c: drive?

Of course if you have Tiawan Bob's warehouse special CD-R with a sticker that says, "No peel Stikker! No war an tea!" that you peel back anyway and it says Packard Bell 1994 on it and yeah, it might cause you problems.

That is very true infact anything being shared on the same bus can slow down the other drive. to resolve this issue or to make sure you get the full benifits....go with a 133 IDE PCI card you can then attach both hard drives to the card and let them run off that card and have your cd rom drives right off the motherboard and non of the drives will bother the other.
