Yesterday i began experiencing lag so bad that it has prevented me form spending time in SL. I know occasionally a sim will get a little laggy and accept that but yesterday evening and this morning i got lag which was averaging at 5000 ms (yes thats 5 seconds) and the highest peak I saw has been at 22 thousand ms. throughout this all the other statistics (other then FPS) have been hovering in their normal idle values I did raise a help request and Teeple Linden did try to help but once i was on the mainland the lag seemed to disappear. Unfortunately this effect was short lived back on furnation the ping started to surge and stall jumping from 190-200 ms to 3-8000ms. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? are any Lindens aware of anything that could cause this?

From: Robin Petshop Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? I've seen private islands crawling, with Ping Sim growing over 2000 mS and huge Net Time surges, thus Frame Time, bringing Time Dilation near 0. The situation on Mainland (when I could escape the laggy sim) was almost normal. I've noticed I had different routes to the crawling sim (Cogent, from Paris) and Mainland (Internap), which certainly means thay are in different coloc. Noticed also that my assets load quickly from my inventory when I'm on mainland and timeout when I'm in one of these net-laggy sims. Technically speaking, splitting the grid over two location was probably prematurate (although it may be a good marketing move).

Over the weekend my sim has been hit a few times by insane image times, reaching well over 3000ms, which drops the FPS, dilation and physics to almost 0. Rebooting has helps but its a major annoyance and inconvience to the shoppers when I have to do so. Queries to Live Help has never received a reply.

Cogent ... cogentco.com on your trace route is a company which supplies cheap bandwidth (Cogent is used on the class 5 grid at the moment - hopefully only as a backup to more reliable and stable bandwidth supplier). We were offered bandwidth at less than $10 per mbit if we bought 100Mbps last year. We didn't use them because of what the industry said, cogent is ok if you have a website, but not if you are streaming media like audio or video. Cogent is heavily over-sold and is notoriously known for packet loss. I don't know if this is because of poor equipment or not. LL is penny pinching by using them. I HOPE it is only temporary.
