Hello all,

Everytime I use SL - my CPU usage goes up to 100% - it states that Secondlife.exe is running 98 (under the CPU column) and around 329,000 in memory usage. It's by far the largest running application. I make sure and close out all other programs when using SL. I wanted to go premium but between this and the lag it causes, I'm not sure what to do.

Has anyone else experienced this or can give me some advice on what to do? Is there something I need to set in my preferences? I have McAfee and Ad-aware which I have running and run often.

I have 160 gigs of hard drive space free and 1.5 gigs of RAM.

Thank you!!

SL use what it can get so yes 100% cpu normal, 50% on dual cores (100% on one core/dual > 50%)

300mb ram use is little, just wait till SL start using 800-1500mb : p

Second Life is everything but next-gen graphic and gameplay wise so there shouldn't be anywhere near that usage. I also had that issue with other rather simple games. It's probably DirectX related but I'm not really sure.

You should read up on what all the client is doing. SL uses as much CPU as it can, and it needs every bit of it, regardless of how next-gen you think it is or is not.

And it's not DirectX related, as SL uses OpenGL.

On my single core desktop PC SL takes just about every ounce of CPU I give it.

The trick I've used to make my machine usable is to go into task manager and lower the priority of SL to "Below normal". By doing that the rest of my apps run well and I really haven't experiened any issues with SL's performance. This also seems to work well with multiple SL instances running.

3d apps will always try to use as much cpu as available, don't forget your framerate depend of it, so its only logic that SL try to suck as much as it can
