Well, first we need to know what you're running. Windows? Mac?

Windows XP.

Ok, if you have DirectX installed, go to the star bar, choose "run" type "dxdiag.exe" and hit ok.

Under System (the first tab) tell me whats under "memory", should be something like "512MB RAM".

Then go to display and tell type whats under the "name" section, that'll be your graphics card.

Then what kind of connection have you got? Broadband/DSL?

Hehe, well, all of that just BARELY scrapes past the minimum requirements , which means you're bound to have a very bumpy ride.. When in world, I'd go into Preferences (Ctrl+P) and try turn everything down. especially those options in graphics and advanced graphics.

If that doesn't work, I'm not sure much can be done without upgrading :(

Hmm maybe not that much, but it'll require a bit more ram at the least..

Not at all. Unless you want to do more than just SL.

Otherwise, this will help greatly:

Kingston ValueRAM 1GB(2x512) $67.99

Asus N6600 AGP Video Card $114.99

THis is assuming your computer uses DDR RAM and has an AGP video slot. Both are likely, but your local PC shop can tell you for sure. But really, just these two upgrades will make a HUGE improvement in your SL experience, for less than $200.

I'm crashing an awful lot too. There aren't any hardware issues, because this only started over the past couple of days. This is a brand new problem for me. I've already turned down my prefs but they've never been a problem before when they were turned up. I just run with them lower to combat lag. I was hoping that it was an SL issue, and that it was happening to other people.

If it's just me, then I'll have to take a good look at my drivers and some other things.

Always make sure you have the latest drivers. This is basic. ALso, defrag your harddrive if it needs to be. Having your data scattered about the drive can seriously slow such a texture-intense game like SL, even if it is just cached.

Checking for Spyware and Viruses is essential too. They can suck the performance out of a computer real fast. I reccomend using Housecall as a starting point (www.antivirus.com housecall is under the Personal section)
