Hi I have a bit of a situation ever since the 1.8.2 update. Whenever I'm on groundelevel of a highprim area (such as a mall, gallery or even my own home (Bora)) SL starts chewing away on my harddrive, It sounds like a tractorpulling. Everything stops when it tries to load something (what? everything was there when I turned my back on it why does it need to reload it when I turn around again?)

I lowerd the draw range to 64 (I think) enabled lowering the draw range if FPS sinks bellow 7, I disabled all the extra graphics goodies, my cashsize is 500mb. gfx memory is 128mb. Lowerd the maximum particle count etc.. I've quiet litterally cut donw on everything and still SL feels the need to rattle my harddrive like crazy.. not only does the harddrive rattle but the whole world freezes as it rattles..

I'm on a laptop with the following specs:
1.6 Ghz Intel processor
512 RAM 333mhz
128mb Intel graphics driver
60GB hd 4800rpm.

10Mbit internet.

I would appreicate an answer and some tips on how I could make it work smoother because this makes any walking around on the ground a task that requres shiploads of patience... (and I'm worried about hte HD in my computer, it's not supposed to handle this kind of load).

EDIT:
YEs I Installed the optional update and it is still the same...

Try lowering everything but INCREASING avatar detail. that new patch they put in will dump excess prims from rendering at the default level, and as such when you attempt to display them again, SL looks at its cache before requesting the required textures from the server.

Another thing you can do is dump the cache and start out fresh. I've noticed that SL runs in granny-gear when I've got a large cache (I've seen over 2GB of data in there...is that really necessary?)

SL will eat you memory for breakfast : p , recommended 1024 min imo, 512 youll get swapping alot cause of all the caching of textures, it will use your swapfile instead of ram cause youll run out very fast more you have in view.

Lower your draw distance if possible , with Intel graphics driver be happy you can even log on :> SL isnt doesnt really go well with it.

I'd suggest setting your texture cache size to small... but that's no longer possible.

As its now based on video ram setting, reducing the vidio ram in prefs from say 256 to 128 will lower how much texture cache is created, obviously not the best workaround but its working here

That's what I seem to be telling people. I'm annoyed they haven't indicated it in known bugs that this is a problem as it's clear many people are affected by this.
