So the driver won't install? What model of Compaq do you have? What were you using before the new video card? Which driver are you trying to use with it? Is it the one downloaded from Nvidia's website?
What is the make and model number of the new video card? ("Gainward YMJ20" or something like that, not the chipset itself.) _____________________

If you had integrated video on the motherboard, did you turn off the integrated video in the bios? Likely not the problem but worth a try.

Im guessing this Compaq has a built-in graphics card?
If so, install the nVidia, right click on your desktop, properties, and fiddle around until you have set the nVidia as the default card. (You may have to restart)If you get a hard time finding out how, you can disable the built-in card in Device Manager. Im sorry I can't be more specific. It's quite some time since I had a dual card setup. There were no jumpers on the main board to disable the built-in card, but the above mentioned fiddling worked for me. And if your machine does NOT have a built-in card, disregard this message completely. ![]() _____________________

Or what Kathmandu says. My computer (A Fujitsu Siemens) didn't have the option in the BIOS to turn it off, but a windows-controlled disabling worked fine.
