Am i doing something wrong?

Hi! I'm very new here and am having a few problems.
I downloaded sl and am starting it up from my computer but when I log in I cannot see my avatar at all and the landscape looks like it's only half there.
Could it just be because I'm on dial-up?
It took 2 hours to download, could something have gone wrong with that?
If anyone has any suggestions or can point me in the right direction that would be great.

i will be honest - the site is not that good, you will be better downloading Firefox, it only works with that, but then again i am having problems signing in and it keeps kicking me off, the site to me cannot handle the input of members, and the servers are a miss some where, but i am cancelling as i find this to much hype, and its not all that

Oh really! So it doesn't work well with IE?
I've seen a few stories on tv about this site and was hoping it would be easy to use.

apparently it does not work with IE 7 but will work with Firefox, but are you having problems with signing into SL ? ?

I can sign in but then I can't do anything except spin around in a circle.
I can't see myself and it looks like most of the background is missing.
I might download Firefox if I can be bothered, dial-up sucks tho, will probably take hours!

yes, SecondLife is a game that requires a high speed internet connection (cable/dsl) and will not work on Dial up.

Ah that'd be it then *sigh*
