Free to copy...isn't?

I built a chair. It has a simple sit script inside. I set the chair's permissions to "Allow anyone to copy". The script however has all permissions turned off. When I, as the owner, put my cursor over the chair, the bottom line in the tooltip that pops up says "Free to copy." However, if someone else puts their cursor over the chair, it does not say "Free to copy," and there is no copy option in the pie.

Would y'all consider this a bug, or the way things are s'posed to work? The way I understood it, "Free to copy" only appeared in the tooltip if anyone could copy it, not just the owner.

Just a guess here Pol, but could it be becuase the permissions are not set in the script?? From what I gather, the chair itself is set to copy, however the script is not? That would keep others from being able to take a copy.

That would be my guess as well.... from trying to walk folks thru setting up freebies, if any of the contents of said freebie are no copy or no transfer.... including the texture used for it... it will override your ability to set the object as "free to copy".

Note that since you own the object, it will always say "free to copy" to you - because you're the owner. That's what makes it most confusing. :(

Yeah, it took me a few minutes, but I figured out it was the script that was blocking others from copying it, and have since changed the script permissions to allow copy, modify, transfer. Because it's such an awesome sit script, y'know.

My problem as a "maker of things" (most of them unscripted) is that I had grown to rely on the "Free to copy" text in the tooltip to indicate that, yes, I had set permissions correctly to allow others to copy the object. Now I'm finding that I have to get someone other than myself to check and make sure that others can copy it as well. Has this always been the case with scripted objects? Am I just that dense that I hadn't noticed it before?

I guess I have trouble with the phrase "Free to copy." Because copy is already synonymous with "does not cost money" in SL, I had always interpreted "Free" in this context as "released to the public." Otherwise, isn't it kind of redundant?

What if...
You have an object only the owner can copy, and the tooltip reads (for the owner) "Owner can copy." And if you have an object that is freely available to anyone, it says "Free to copy."
