Hello Secondlifers.
I've been a member of the secondlife community for almost 2 years. I've had alot of fun times in SL, and I never wanted to leave.
Recently alot of things have been hapening in RL. I have now moved house and I am renting. The problem is, the house I'm living in now doesn't have a cable connection in the wall, and I am forced to use ADSL.
I can't play SL now. I log into the game and I have extreme lag. Making the game unplayable. For the last month I've been looking for a replacement game. I've had no luck, and I've decided to try to get into SL one last time.
I'm posting this forum to ask everyone. Is there some sort of way I can lower the lag ALOT so the game is playable? I've tryed turning the graphics down and everything and I still lag too much. Is there something I missed? Or is ADSL just too slow? I really want to know.

http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.phpIm not sure what ADSL is as apposed to DSL but the system requirements state: "Minimum System Requirements: Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL " ..for both PC and MAC

Very simply put ADSL is the DSL most people have. The A stands for aysymmetric, meaning the information travels at different speeds on the upload/download rates. SDSL means symmetric, wherein the upload and download rates are the same speed. -- There's a variety of factors to consider with your lag issue. Everything from the connection (ie what speed you have on the DSL), to settings, to LL side, how many AV's are in an area, etc. One possibility could be the DSL connection itself not being fast enough or even the distance between you and the SL servers. Let's say if instead of going straight through it takes a right turn at utah. Internet companies are weird like that when it comes to you getting your connection. =P I've used SL on a variety of connections and yes I was even able to make it run on the fabled dialup. Wasn't the most pleasant experience, but it worked. I have Bellsouth DSL myself, the second package seems to work better than the first, and the biggest package probably the best. My friend has the first package and it tends to lag more and occasionally choke for no reason, even though my settings are configured to handle it. It will also not always agree with streaming music. Have you turned off bumpmap and shiny? Ticked on Sun and Moon? Draw distance at 64? There's also a good file I picked up in world that gives some hints as to what to try when it comes to lag. Sometimes though it just can't be helped depending on what's happening in the sim. You may also want to try reading here if you haven't already: http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=273If that doesn't work and it's been fine before, I'd summize that yes it could be your connection.
