A new perspective on crashing ?

Running SL almost daily on a highish level system for a month now.

No problems at all until last night (therefore can assume coped with all updates ok)

Got tangled in a skybox while flying a hover car and since that moment SL completely unstable on my system. Some sims completely unstable - system will crash after a few secs to a min at most. Error log sent each time to SL.

Have tried clearing cache, uninstalling (as per SL guidelined including all legacy / temp files), etc etc all to no avail.

By chance, tried an alternative character I have not used for some time (different account name, but on same computer) and with this character my system is perfectly stable, as before.

Can go back and forth - primary character unstable / old character fine.

This would suggest that some coruuption may have crept into my primary character presumably on the LL side.

Anyone know if this is a logical thought train and, if so, can my primary character be in some way "purified" ?

TIA

Possible answer...

Might have sorted this one out...

Removed all clothes / attachments worn at time of first crash and primary character is now completely stable.

Presumably something I was wearing became corrupted...

I'm having this exact same problem..

EDIT: I think I found the problem, it was a flexible scarf I was wearing, I think.

That is great debugging / insight. If either of you, or anyone, with this problem, has an account that is currenty crashing reliably (and other accounts are not), send an IM to Steve Linden, and I will contact you about hijacking your account for a little while attempting to repro / debug this. Meanwhile we will keep an eye out for the crash ourselves. It soulds like it is most likely (in rough order of likelihood):
* A particular attachment, possibly flexible? or combination of attachments
* A corrupted attachment
* A problem with an inventory item, possibly corrupted

Thanks for the info!

I've been telling LL that my main account behaves entirely differently to my alts in this way for nearly two years. They have summarily ignored me for nearly two years.

I've been having a lot less problems with crashing or locking up by shutting off my HUDs immmediately upon entering SL. Also, I removed my wings which might have been both graphics intensive and script intensive.
Yesterday I did crash once as soon as I started when I tried to access the map before I was finished rezzing.
Another time I crashed when I first srated up when I attempted to use my mouse-look camera.
Perhaps asking the computer to do too much before it was finished rezzing into SL?

Interesting take on the avatar test...good job isolating the problem.
