Hi!
I've just discovered Second Life and so far it has not giving me reasons to celebrate...
I've tried to run it in my pc but then SL complained about the graphic card. Ok, right... the recently formatted pc did not have the drivers yet so I installed them.
After installing all the drivers (for my ASUS GeForce FX 5200 Video Suite) things got even worst and the game constantly crashed right after (or during) the "Detecting Hardware" stage and I don't have a clue why's that! My graphic card is still kinda recent and powerfull, the pc is a state-of-the-art one (with 400GB HDD, 2GB DDR2 and AMD 64 dual core) and still SL crashes and gives me no reason why....

So, annoyed I decided to try it in my laptop. Things got better but still I had no reasons to celebrate. Which such a powerfull laptop as mine (HP Pavillion zx5000 ) with ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 with updated drivers the game still crashes... I actually can log in and play just for a couple of seconds before SL has the crash.

I can play games way more demanding than this one and still Second Life is crashing in both my pcs and I just stare at the screen trying to figure out why that heck does that happen....

Could anyone give me some help?
It would be mostly apreciated. :)

demanding no

no other game like envriroment allows 100 thousand users to upload totally enefficent resources and stream them to your computer on the fly

yes SL does have some major oversights,(ie rendering polys that you cant see, DUH thats only 20 year old tech) but...

anyways

SL is insanly CPU intensive, faster the better (altho im running on a amd 2200+ with no issues)

Options DOWN

local lighting is ass, turn it off atleast till you see some offical compalints er reports about the new client about to debue, which handles it more on the GPU

draw distance the same, 256 m is great, but not needed when your in a 30x30 m club

particles 4096 is default 2048 is more reasonable
(esp on the FX or mobility series of video cards)

Ripple water off unless you own a 6 series or better (or competitive) video card

Keep everything around 50% detail... i dont know what they where thinking, maby we all own crays with ILM/SGI video tech but unless your running a 64 bit machine with a dual video card setup, forget about it (even then the performance isnt much better)

SL isnt like most other games...
Quake 4 was developed by professionals, so was DDO, or WOW, or SWG, they ALL know the magic of how to make something look good without hoggin resources ... In SL you have Jim AV who uses a 2 megapixel image for a black blank jacket

it is possible to get exceptional speed out of SL, but you have to fool around
besides i dont know any other world that allows the user to biuld or program anything they please inworld, which is the only bonus to SL atm

amd athalon 2200+ 1.5gb of ddr 333 ram Geforce 6600Gt
