Hey Im , very new, joined just yesterday, im sorry if i missed this, is the close down tonight routine? it will only let in linden workers, will it go on long, how long>?

Heyo Edge.  The grid's down for a big update (called a Point Update, when instead of a mere 1.7.5 to 1.7.6 or such, it goes right from 1.7 to 1.8 in this case. It should be up before this afternoon SL time (GMT-  , if time goes acording to plan. Patches tend to happen on Tuesday, but usually not /every/ Tuesday.

Lindens have closed the grid Tuesday morning Pacific Time for an update to version 1.8. This was announced several days ago.

It is routine, when a new version is rolled out. It can be a month or three (or more) between versions. We are entering version 1.8 today! Icant wait!

This is the normal procedure when they do a major software update. It takes them about half a day to update all the servers. Looking at my watch, we should, hopefully, be able to go on-line again in a bit more than an hour. When they come back, you'll need to download the 1.8.0 client software before you can finish logging in. I hear you can do that right now (on the downloads page of this website). But personally, I'll wait until they open the grid again. Why? In case they have any last-minute changes to the client. I don't want to have to download it twice. |
