Does the computer meet the minimum requirements to run SL? What type and model is it? Then again a lot of folks have been having log in probs the last two days. The Wireless card should work ok for the most part. The hotel may have some sort of firewall, good idea to ask. Has the machine run SL before now?

Hi Nubira — yes, that sounds like a firewall problem, and I would definitely ask the hotel's staff about it. Just for the sake of completeness, do any messaging systems you use (MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Google Talk...) work perfectly? If yes, the firewall is at least not set to block everything, but it may be selectively blocking some things. Perhaps you can point the hotel's staff to this page and have them configure it to allow SL access for you. I'm really sorry to hear about your RL troubles but I'm also glad that you're well and safe — to the point that you're now thinking about SL again That is encouraging to hear! Good luck sorting it all out, I hope you manage well!

I have to agree.
What you describe is identical to having your network connection blocked. Second Life is nothing like MMOs from a network standpoint. It is both possible and highly likely that the network can be configured to block SL while allowing other programs (even TSO) to run.
Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, and 13000-13050/UDP. Any firewall must allow outbound traffic on those ports, and related inbound traffic. Unless you specifically ask the people in charge of the network whether these ports and protocols are open, there's not much we can troubleshoot.
