For at least the last couple patches, I've been noticing a problem - just curious if anyone else is too.
I experience heavy client-side lag for up to 5 minutes upon returning from window mode.
Here are the steps to duplicate on a windows machine:
1. Run SL in full-screen mode. 2. Hit CTRL+ESC to minimize SL, and return to desktop. 3. The longer you keep SL minimized, the longer your "lag" will last upon returning. 4. Click on the minimized SL to return to game.
I've used CTRL+ESC to minimize SL for a long time, and I've had no recent hardware changes. It all started suddenly, maybe 2 or 3 patches ago.
2 bug reports have been filed. One a couple weeks ago, another tonight.
Thanks!
Travis

Yeah i noticed this one to, i run in window mode tho, but the longer i dont have SL active, the longer lag ill get when i select SL. I thought it was cause i changed my vid card tho, guess its not that , i used to have a r9800pro, changed it and on a 6800gt now.

I've had this problem for six months or more. Windowed mode, minimize, wait a while, restore, and BAM, lag as it rebuilds objects or somesuch.

I've been dealing with the same thing for a few months now. And it's odd, it does seem like the longer I'm in another window, when I do return, the worse my lag is.
I've submitted a bug report as well, but never heard anything back.

Could it be memory?
While the program is minimised, and you use other programs.. windows relays it to lower priority for memory demand, and may be swapping the memory from RAM to disk swapfile. When you return to SL, the lag could be both using the slower disk file and the fact that it may be taking resources to swap back into RAM.
Just an idea..

hmm thats a idea, im going to try abit, 3 gig ram i shouldnt really have this lag when i get back ******** Welll.. that didnt do much, odd thing i noticed tho when i hit alt-9, all my lag went poof gone, but i could just been finished caching it back or something. Opened alot of programs and stuff the usual things i use, and zipped out a 590mb texture pack , peeked at 739mb total use, and back into SL . Maajor lag awhile,, then woosh it was gone, no hd grind what so ever on my drives.

Just an idea.. I guess its possible - but I'm running 1.5GB of memory - and 256MB on the Vid Card. I'd think that would be plenty for SL.... when I switch to window mode, the only application I run is Internet Explorer. Moleculor's comment that he's seen this for 6 months concerns me - I was under the impression this was a "bug" that was introduced in a recent patch - but now I'm questioning that theory. Sucks when I'm in a busy spot, I come off 'AWAY' and people are trying to chat with me - and all I can do is sit and watch for 5 minutes - unable to respond due to lag Trav

I run in window mode like most others, but when I dump out to use PS, SciTE or the net, I don't minimize SL.... I just pop-up the windowed program I need on top of SL. This way, I never go into AFK mode and I don't experience any lag problem upon return. Of course, this means the other programs' windows have to be in their middle state - not minimized and not maximized - whatever that state is called.

Woah.. that's quite an amount of RAM! I envy you.. me having slightly less than 400 Megs. But let's remember that WINDOZE is kinda awkward handling resources. Hasn't anyone noticed a fresh install of windows on a 80 GB disk will come fragmented from the start?? Heh. And not talking empty spaces here.. it's like real intertwining of files!

Ok noticed a huge diffrence when i minimize SL and do things then i came back - major lag SL up , and switch to anything then work , (not minimizing SL) go back to SL - no lag for me.
