I realise that you may not be able to help as I can't give the details of the machine or OS being used for this problem. A friend is finding that everything she says is repeated three times either in chat or IM. She has reinstalled SL a number of times but the problem repeats. If there is a known bug, or easy fix for this, I would be very grateful for ideas. If it is a more complex problem, then I realise you can't help, but thanks for reading.

How many times did you say it was repeated?

Amusing, accurate but fundamentally unhelpful. A career in politics awaits you!

Out of curiosity, is this on a wireless connection? I get that same stutter / repetition frequently when I use my laptop on a wireless connection to connect to SL. If it is wireless, I'm not sure there is a fix besides going to a wired connection.

More information: it seems not to be a hardware problem as she is able to log in with an alt without problems.
Also, she seems unable to change her clothes or attachments and we have found that the repeated speech only occurs in one sim.

OK i have actually seen this before but only under certain circumstances. Normally you will see this when you are on a wireless network has multiple access points and they are not properly configured.
What happens is this, You have your main router/dhcp providing (network address) router and multiple access points. The access points are set up in a manor that you actually connect to all available access points at the same time, the problem with it is that you also transmit as many times as you have access points, using more bandwidth then you should be. The fix is correctly configuring the access points. Easy if your the administrator, not so easy if you are not.
