hi there,

i started SL yesterday. but there seems to be some sort of problem.

i can't see myself. all i see is my name in a box, but i can't see my avatar. also can't really see any other person.
i'm in orientation island and all i see is always monochrome either beige or sometimes purple.

what is the problem? what should i do?

What are your system specs, does your computer meet the requirements of SL?

Yep, we need more information. Processor, Processor speed, system RAM, video card, video card RAM, type of network connection.

My first suggestion would be to make sure that you have installed the latest drivers for your video card.

i have pentium 4 1.7 GHZ
with 1 GB RAM
ADSL 1.5 MB connection
my video card is an onboard Radeon 9100 IGP which gets its memory from the main RAM memory (64 MB - i tried changing it to bios to 128 MB, but it didn't seem to help)

i tried installing the latest drivers for my video driver, didn't seem to help either.

Wikipedia says you need ATI Radeon Radeon 8500, Radeon 9250 or better to play second life. might that be the problem?

thanks again for your help,
ido

yes, I would recommend getting a seperate video card, seperate from the on board, and that will really improve performance. you may also want to lower graphics settings in your preferences. Especially your draw distance, and that should help as well. Good luck!

Yeah, I'd say it's your video card. You really need a dedicated video card to run SL or a much better integrated one with dedicated memory, Nvidia would be best and an Nvidia 6600 or better would be my recommendation.

Unless it was that little problem SL was having today.
