it connects and starts loading it loads about 1/2-3/4 of the map then discouncets i.e the mini map goses red. in the information part it says theres a load of lost packets but using that win thing to test the packets but it says there is 0 lost packets expect on the last ones with sl where it say there's about 4%.
i've been trying to change the ports since i've tried configuring my firewall even disconecting it to check but no luck.
anyone got any suggestons how to fix it or what i should do or what to change the ports to under proxy since i tried it via that but it just says it can't connect when i use that

Definately sounds like a network problem, Violetann. One thing you could try doing.... In game, hit ctrl-shift-1 to bring up the debug stats window. If you could take a screen shot of that & post it here (cropping it in photoshop or something first) - it might help folks give you some useful feedback I'd be curious to see if you are getting any packetloss. Also - what kind of network connection are you on? 56k Dialup /DSL 768kb / 6MB Cable??

i don't know since it's though a network but what the bandwidth tester said was: 1.7 megabits per second Communications 1.7 megabits per second Storage 207.8 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 4.9 seconds Subjective rating Great
and it said type cable. i tried to set up the proxy which i use for firefox to work but it dosen't tell me what ports i can type in. i tried the one which was in there anyway 3128 but it says i cannot connect and that i should try to connect to the main web site to see if it works.
it can't be the main firewall since it normaly dosen't let anything connect what so ever if that is trying to use a blocked port.
i had to save the sceenshot as a gif so it looks realy bad and linny but it isn't

Violetann - Thanks for posting those shots. The stuff I was most curious about were your Network, Packet Loss & Ping Time stats. IMHO, you're definately getting disconnected network-wise, as evidenced by all the zero's in your last screenshot. A couple things have peaked my attention - your comment that you're behind a network, and that you typically use a proxy for Firefox. Is this a work/school network? Is there a chance that they may be blocking some ports that SL commonly uses? Here's one thing you might want to play around with: There's a known problem where some folks have to force SL to run on a specific port in order to get two computers to play SL. This isn't your problem, of course - but I'm wondering if trying to force SL to run on a specific port might help you. Follow these instructions here and see if it helps :)Additionally, assuming you have any control over the firewall that your network uses, you might want to have the administrator check out this page to make sure its configured properly to work with SL. Hope this helps!

thanks for the help but wierdly enought yestorday it just started working better. it loads the map i can move about not too badly a little slowly but not that bad. it inventory and uploading can be picky sometimes of when they do or don't wanna work. yeah sadly i live in halls this semester which means using there net connection. normaly if it's the firewall if something is blocked it gets blocked and never connects not even for a second. might be something to with this laptop but i'm getting my pc back soon which is use to run on at home fine so if it dosen't work on that i know it's the connection not the pc/laptop.
