Anyone got the Nvidia 3D Stereo drivers to work?

I just thought it would be very cool to walk through Secondlife in 3D vision.... however I tried the 3D stereo drivers from Nvidia and SecondLife just keeps crashing as soon as 3D is turned on. Tried different pc's and different cards. it doesn't matter.. crash reports all over.

has anyone tried this / got it to work?

If this would work I could set out to get myself a VR helmet.. l!!
building might be soo much easier in 3D!

That is a huge claim by nVidia.. but I bet it's based on having absolutley averything exactly right, including a top of the range compatible PC system (only one quoted on the website), no bugs, massive HD bandwidth, memory speeds and quantity, plus the best CC, and a game other than SL.

SL is a very graphic intensive game that uses a lot of resource demands from your system, especially the CC. I would love to see a 3D game in better quality 3D, but I wouldn't attempt to try gaining this additional eye candy with such a flaky game such as SL, there are just too many issues.

I don't know what you mean with CC, so can't respond to that.. however the Nvidia 3D is working perfectly on the pc of my son with an 800mhz Celeron, ATA66 drive and a 64Mb MX400 card with several 3D games.. all those specs should only affect performance..

SL doesn't give a bad performance, it isn't displaying anything and simply crashes when enabling 3D... seems more like OpenGL issues.

And I could agree SL has so many flaws it is very ambitious and/or risky to try something this advanced.. however a virtual world in 3D sounds already much like Holodecks from Star Trek.. it sounds like fun

sorry for the jargon.. CC should have read GC (Graphics Card)

I think there may be a generational problem getting 3D stereo to work with SL. I have a pair of 3D glasses that worked great with old generation computers like the 800 Celron and older video cards but they absolutely will not work with new cards and their drivers. Anything that will run SL may be too new to work with the glasses I have. Need to look at the manufacturers website and see if it can work with your equipment.

Due to this post, I did some research... those 3D screens look very promising, although judging by the installation manuals, you will need a head vice, to keep your head in exactly the right spot to make it work lol.. All I got to do now (apart from building said head vice) is find a way of legally robbing a bank to pay for one.

yes, those 3D screens are very cool but crazy expensive.. the Oled glasses are coming down fast now.. few hundered bucks nowadays.. and I think the driver system works the same.. so if the Nvidia won't work 3D, neither will the 3D display..

and Katmandu, there indeed is a hardware issue that the 5V pin that normally was used for the stereo field switching (the DDC pin of the VGA connector) often won't work on i.e. laptops but that might also be an issue for newer cards.. newer devices (glasses) might support some sort of auto-flipping, so they don't need that pin...

hope that makes sense, because I don't have a 3D device (yet) so...

and still being positive SL will work in 3D within a year (or a few more).. lol

I know for a fact that my glasses won't work. They did on my old Nvidia Ti 4200 but not on anything newer that I've owned. The company that made them now make a newer model that is supposed to work but I don't know but their support said I needed to buy the new one. I now don't use CRTs anymore so it is mute anyway.
