Item not found in Database

Yesterday I created a whole load of clothing for my shop, but when I tried to give it to friends they were not able to wear it - getting the message 'item not found in database'. Then today, even though all of the items were in my inventory, I could not wear them either - getting the same message. I've recreated some of the items today and I can wear them, but I can't pass them on. Anyone know what is happening?

right click whatever item give you this error, then copy uuid ,
if that gives you a long series of
xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx (letters)
report that to bug missing database object.

However if it turns up as a bunch of zeros (0000-0000-ect) then asset has lost it, and you either need to wait till it gets it back (dont count on this it wont -.-) or upload it again.

Not exact sure what or why this is happening but it is sure happening to a LOT of us. Its been referred to as the "Inventory Gamble". You put something into your inventory and its a gamble if you ever see it again.

More on the Problem
10-14-2007 08:23
Interestingly, I have found that this problem is tied to my PC (the same one I've been running SL on for almost a year). When I log on from another machine, the problem does not repeat.

In addition, I cannot upgrade group permissions from my PC either, but I can from another machine.

I have tried a reinstall but it makes no difference. It seems that something on my normal PC is not interacting correctly with the asset servers. Any ideas anyone? Or how can I completely remove SL from my PC so that a reinstall does not pick up bad habits from an earlier version?

To completely remove SL on a PC:

1. Uninstall Second Life via add/delete program in Control Panel
2. Go to c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application
Data\Second Life and delete the entire folder
3. Go to c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and delete as much as you can out of the Temp folder
4. Go to your browser and delete cookies and cached files
5. I would also power off your broadband router/modem for 10 minutes and then restart it, just in case some weirdo entry is cached.

I think that'll do it. Please let us know what happens, this is very interesting given the prevalence of the the "item missing from database" bug.

Thanks Nika. I did all of this, but when I logged on my username was still there at login. So there seems to be something surviving the reinstall/multiple delete.

And my new clothes are still missing.

Does SL put something in the XP registry that is not getting blown away?

Very likely, lol, but I don't know what it is. And I doubt that is where your username was cached. Are you playing from your own home network, or via a dorm or other institution's network? I'm wondering if there is a web cache running between you and LL.

Home/business network. But there is no web cache on the system - I wish there was, but I haven't got round to setting one up!

Wonder of wonders! It is now all working again. Not that I've changed anything!
