Hangs on startup

Since the move to 1.8 and later i have been having intermittent problems with the client freezing on start up. It gets to PRECACHING then hangs... I can let the system sit for a while and it still does nothing. When I look in the task manager the CPU usage for the client is in the high 90's and I end up having to force the task to end. Upon restart I usually file a crash report. After a few attempts I can usually get in and then it operates fine.

I am using a high end IBM Laptop Model t43.

Can you advise?

Unfortunately I don't have any personal experience with your situation, KDL--but I'm guiding your thread to Technical Issues where replies can be made. Hopefully someone else can help you. :) You can also contact support!

Also be sure you've already done the basic: uninstall, download a fresh copy of SL from http://secondlife.com/download and then install that. And it's normal for there to be such high CPU usage but abnormal if it freezes like that.
