Since the move to 1.8 and later i have been having intermittent problems with the client freezing on start up. It gets to PRECACHING then hangs... I can let the system sit for a while and it still does nothing. When I look in the task manager the CPU usage for the client is in the high 90's and I end up having to force the task to end. Upon restart I usually file a crash report. After a few attempts I can usually get in and then it operates fine.
I am using a high end IBM Laptop Model t43.
Can you advise?

Unfortunately I don't have any personal experience with your situation, KDL--but I'm guiding your thread to Technical Issues where replies can be made. Hopefully someone else can help you. You can also contact support! Also be sure you've already done the basic: uninstall, download a fresh copy of SL from http://secondlife.com/download and then install that. And it's normal for there to be such high CPU usage but abnormal if it freezes like that.
