OpenOffice.org and transaction downloads

Hi - I've decided to organise myself and have downloaded the daily transaction info secondlife-transaction.xls

When I try and open it in OpenOffice.org it opens in writer rather than calc. I get a table with the following columns:

Type, Description (which always seems to be blank), payment, deposit, time, resident/group, end balance.

Does anyone know how to get this to open in calc so I can use it as a spreadsheet?

Are there any plans to fill out the description column so we can know what we have actually sold? (It's not much use without that).

Ah...I dunno, maybe, you know, open Calc, go to File->Open?

Nope - it still opens in it writer.
