Getting black legs, or even textures from a picture near where i log in on my legs, once clothing applied, they look normal, but when removing clothing back to bare skin, the black/photo texturing is back!
i have done games support in the past, so i tried the usual cache clearing, resetting the preferences and display settings and such, seems there is some way the texture is remaining resident in my video card memory, and then mis-applied to the wrong surface, the photo is resized and curved along my legs as well!
it is a geforce fx 5700, 256 mb card, any suggestions?

I have seen this only a couple of times, but it does happen. I gave a girlfriend one of my no-copy dresses as a gift, and she wound up with a partial screen image plastered to her leg. But when she gave it back to me, it was fine. Tried clearing cache, logging off and back on, changing your selected group... nothing seemed to help.
Another similar glitch is when the texture for the pants you were wearing transfers to your skin when you remove the pants!
What I had to do to fix it was to 'change my skin' a few times. Rez a different avatar that has a different skin texture as part of it. Then rez your earlier avatar. That usually works. Has to be a different one the first time, though. Not just directly re-applying the one that is messed up. This seems to work best if you drag an entire outfit folder, with skin, hair and clothes, to yourself for each of the changes.
If you don't have any optional skins, grab some cheap free avatar and use that, even if it's something you wouldn't normally wear. Anything, so long as it changes all of your skin.

As Ceera says, switch avs - and then wait.
As you switch, your av should become blurry while all the textures download. Once they have downloaded you look crisp (to yourself, but not too others). Your machine is now "baking" the textures together into one layer, after which it uploads the baked tex back to the servers. Suddenly you go blurry again. This is your machine re-downloading the baked tex. When you are crisp this second time (and now others see you crisp as well) then now is the time to change back to your main av.
If you change back to soon, it seems that SL just picks up the previous, buggy baked texture.

It is with my favorite skin, i tried it with a little bunny avatar, and it seemed to work, but then, it went back, i changed skins for now, and left it changed, so i am hoping tonight, when i can log in, i can wait a bit, and then change back to my favorite...
