OK. I ventured out texture shopping again tonight.

Store 1: One of the stores I went to was greatly improved over the last time I had been there (after 1.7), being back to about its normal performance for me before 1.7! Which is not, needless to say, very good, considering my computer setup, but it was normal for me. It hadn't been that good the other time I visited it after 1.7; it had been miserable. But now it is back to what it had been for me pre-1.7.

Store 2: Encouraged by my enjoyment at store 1, just as enjoyable as it had ever been, I went to store 2, also one of my regular haunts, pre-1.7. I could scarcely get IN the place. Once in, I could scarcely MOVE. Curious, I checked the stats. The ping things were at 10,000 each, and the fps - the fps listed at the top of the stats screen - was at 1, or 4.5, or .45, somewhere around in there; I forget exactly. Though it said the SIM fps was 45.

While I was contemplating that, I suddenly moved out into some ocean somewhere. Now I hadn't been holding down my move key (I know better than to hold that down very long during times like this), but nonetheless, I was off in some water somehow. So I just logged off, rather than try to turn around and see what happened.

I will go back there in a minute, and see if it is any better.

My questions:

How come one store is wonderful (well, nothing is ever that wonderful for me, but it was back to normal for me, and probably wonderful for others), and the other store has been rendered virtually useless?

These are both stores I frequent quite a lot - so much so that I am familiar with their offerings. The vast difference in performance in the two tonight was startling. I don't know what to make of it, or whether there is any hope forthcoming for it. This seems so unfair to that store owner.

I think personally is a sim as in (a) hardware or (b) software problem, why do i come to this conclusion well after 2 days of having these really awfull pings in my own sim, 15,000ms to the sim, 170ms back to me, image times all over the place, after along time waiting like this the sim suddenly went red map on me and i relogged finding the sim not there, 5 mins later it reappeared which is slower than a normal restart so im guessing the whole machine rebooted, we got another simxxx number and now everything is running perfect according to the wiki we are in the same sim class range and no content is changed as i was the only one in the sim and noticed the object count prior to crash.

OK, I went back to Store #2, and whatever had been going on wasn't anymore. It was still slower than it used to be, but the pings were in the low hundreds, and the fps acting normally (for me, I suppose).

So maybe it's like you said, and they took it offline or something. That would explain why I was all of a sudden in the water, too!

Anyway, I'm glad that this store isn't just kaput forever.

Almost makes you wonder if a sim somewhere is accidentally parked on a subnet broadcast address.

Ooo-kay..

Well, it almost makes me wonder that, anyway. Even if you're not :)
