Where did my ' and my " go?

Oddly, apostrophes and " are two symbols that don't seem to function in my SL client. This leaves my English mangled to a point where I dread to go. No more ' I'm ', now just Im...

..What's wrong?

what keyboard do you have? SL is set up for a US keyboard only, and the ' and " are on the right of the keyboard, where the @ is on a UK keyboard.

Ambia, where are you located if I may ask? Are you on an International keyboard layout? There are known difficulties currently, but they are being looked into for resolution in a future version of SL -- hopefully soon! :)

Never heard of an international keyboard. Mine's a logitech too, and the " is on the 2 ... but it doesn't work in SL either.
My ' works though, that's on the right, above the shift key.

The key to the left of the "enter" key (rightmost key on the middle row) should produce single and double quotes: single quote with the "shift" key released, double quote with the "shift" key pressed.

Make sure you have added 'English/US' in regional and language options:

- Go to control panel -> regional and language options
- Press 'details' button on 'languages' tab
- 'Add' English (United States) with keyboard layout US to your installed services,

Make sure you have this language selected when you're running SL. (As language is configurable per application).

Ik hoop dat dit de problemen oplost. (I hope this solves your problems).

Lindens,

Long enough us non-'Merkins have been oppressed by your obviously racist keyboard policies!

Do you know what a pain in the ass it is to write scripts when the most basic symbols we need simply aren't where they are supposed to be!?!?

I estimate that I have spent hours - literally HOURS - backspacing after writing yet another @ sign where I meant to put a ".

I believe you should issue an unreserved apology for your racist policies and compensate all Non-US keyboard users retoactively and pro-rata'd according to start date for the inconvenience.

Where's my free money?

However, you CAN use a gesture to do this.

for example, you could set it up so that when you type /twat it displays your full text. then you can bind that to a hotkey.

Hmm. *wonders if I can bind " and @ to gestures so they reverse....

Actually, none of the buttons are switched around. All buttons seem to produce the symbols they should produce... except the " and ' button. The curser doesn't even budge, as if the button isn't pressed.

" is where @ is on a UK keyboard - and ' is on the same key but without shift being pressed. On my keyboard the key you need is 2 to the right of L. I've no idea if this helps or not.
