Hey there!
I have massive problems with SL since the last 3 days. It is like gambling if I can play for some hrs or if I crash every 10 seconds (sometimes I crashes just after log in).
These Problems came out of nowhere. Sure I had some crashes before, but all of a sudden SL begins to crash permanently..
To my system:
I uses a fresh install of WinXP with complete newest drivers for all my Hardware:
Athon FX-55 2 GB Ram Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX SATA 300 GB Raid 0
To ensure that my system is okay I runned a 6hrs memory and stress Test with no errors. I also tried some other games - no crashing.
So how weird can this be? No one I know in SL keeps crashing sometimes every 1-10 secs. But sometimes I can play for hours too. What is this? Does anyone of you have an idea what to check? Please help me. It would be really sad if such a mess would mean the End of SL to me...
Thank you.

Try some of these
Preference/Graphics/draw distance drop it to 64m
Preference/Graphic Details/every slider on half or less (tend to trip my client when building mostly that happen tho)
Preference/Adv.Graphic/tick off AGP if you havnt already (this affects a few chipsets apperantly, for me it give more fps ticking it off, chipset driver i guess, doesnt happen when i installed vista without chipset driver agp tick doesnt do anything)
Probably one setting thats to high and trips your client, youre not on land wich has video url constantly right -.- that one clashes with me every time.

What sort of power supply you have? If you don't have a pretty high end one, you may be having problems with power. I just replaced my 500 watt today because I tried running two instances of SL at the same time and I crashed hard. I turned off the computer and it wouldn't restart. I tried flipping the on off switch a couple of times, nothing. I then unplugged it and then plugged it back in and turned it on. A large spark popped out of the case. Luckily it stopped at the PS and didn't fry the motherboard or anything. This was an expensive PSU BTW, not a Taiwan special.
SL is a pretty demanding application and I can see my fans spinning to full speed when its being run so I figure my computer is drawing max power from the PSU and if its not 100% you will crash. If there are heat problems with the video or CPU you can have the same problems.

Demanding?
One of the machines I run it on is a Duron 650 MHz with 256Meg of RAM and a GeForce 2, sure it runs a little slower than I'd like but I only use that machine when my other workstations are tied up.
It's not that demanding of an app.
Back to the question at hand, when you get these crashes, are you doing them same thing/visiting the same place/wearing the same stuff?
I seem to remember someone else having an issue with crashing and it was tracked down to a script in an item their were wearing trying to run before everything was rezzed/loaded that was needed. (It's a fairly recent thread so you should be able to find it easily enough if you want to read about it more)
The solution was to not wear that item.

Yeah, its not demanding when you run it being 3/4 crippled. The lower the specs of your computer, the more features become disabled just to get it to run. Trust me, when you have shiny, bump mapping, local lighting, object detail, ripple water turned on and a draw distance of 256 meters and AA and AF maxed out your video card and CPU are being hammered hard. Just as Oblivion can run on a 2 gig P4 with an Nvidia 5600 doesn't mean it won't hammer a AMD FX 55 on a Nvidia 7950 GTX to the point it will make it cry and make your computer able to warm a small room.

Hey guys, thank u for your answers. In my frustration I reinstalled WinXP again - with just the newest drivers. I also leave the SL settings at default. Only the resolution is 1280x1024. Well - I had only 3 crashes in 5hrs yesterday... In fact I am very happy with this, I cant imagine why the details should be responsable for the crashes. My PSU is a 550W one and the PC never shuts down because of overheating (well this is what my diagnostic programms say). I will have a close look on the Detail sliders from now on. Turning them up just a little step after another, to see which one of them is the true evil.. Again, thank you all for your response. It seemed you saved my time in SL for now.. :-x Vanny
