Had a power supply fail. And it somehow managed to damage my BFG 6800 OC (nVidia) card. Stuck in an old GF4 and the system stops rebooting and hardlocking, but I cannot play anything. Am thinking of an ATI X1300 Pro AGP 8x.
From a purely spec based standpoint, it is a better card, pushing roughly 150K more polygons / second and has the newest pixel shader and such. However, what I want to know is, how well does SL handle ATI and the Catylist Unified Drivers compared to nVidia and the Forceware drivers?
Anyone running an X1300 or any of the X1nnn series that could let me know how it performs in SL?

ATI's drivers really aren't up to snuff when it comes to an OpenGL game like SL. I would highly reccomend an nVidia card. Preferably a 6800GS since you still have AGP.

ATI and Latest Announcment...
08-13-2006 11:12
I run Mac and the ATI 9800 (256) Pro Mac Special Edition. Have never had any problems with running SL, including recognition of AGP with the SL Mac client. Apparently this is not the case with the Windoze versions of the ATI drivers and display control panel. Here is an announcement I found regarding the Catalyst drivers, version 6.6. Dated July 18th. "ATI's latest public release, Catalyst 6.6 has now been thoroughly tested and found to operate correctly for all test cases! Due to the nature of ATI's site structure, It is not possible for us to provide a direct link to download the driver. Instead, go to: ATI's website and download the item referred to as Catalyst Control Center Package (which is 34.8Mb in size)." Laptop users with the Mobility Radeon chipset, visit: http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/. May be of help... maybe not. Good luck.

Truth, NVidia's OpenGL support/drivers are better, not in the least because a certin Mr. Carmack worked closely with them and pushed OpenGL down NVidia's throat for Doom3/Quake4 engine. If you're targetting SL, NVidia is the best choice, if not, it probably still is.
