Hi,

for 6 months, i've tried to feel what it was to be a sl resident, mainly because there was a linux version and a kind of 'free software spirit', but i think i will cancel my account soon, anyway.

The idea is great, the product is not.
I'm fed up trying to connect to something that makes my perfectly tuned Debian box behaves like win95.

Despite the fact LL say you can do almost what you want in SL, you can't and you have to be 'classical' in too many ways. (I don't speak about virtual sex, sex IS classical)

I've spent hundreds of bucks inworld just to have the pleasure of being insulted by teenage griefers, automatically ejected from many places by security orbs, waited several hours for heavy textures to load and crashed before it was done.

Maybe i should have bought a ten thousand dollars computer in order to have a pleasant second life experience...

Now, i think SL shows the worst part of ourselves, and is worst than RL, anyway. I've had a few pleasant talks with some people from other countries (mostly U.S.A), but it doesn't justify such a fee.

One good point for the end: i've improved greatly my ability to write in English, the first attempts were so, say...funny.

Bye, everybody

In honor of many posts in the past 10 years which precede this comment....

"Can I have your stuff?"

Honestly if you were getting banned from places then you obviously were doing something to offend people. Just because you sit behind a PC in SecondLife doesnt mean you can behave like a gamer from another MMO. Here the players have control over who is banned from their land. Furthermore, I admire the fact that you run SL on Linux.. but I doubt you have the hardware needed to actually run the game smoothly. Best of luck wherever the road takes you.

I don't think he said he got banned from anywhere. I believe this is what he said:

"I've spent hundreds of bucks inworld just to have the pleasure of being insulted by teenage griefers, automatically ejected from many places by security orbs,"

I've been ejected the same way myself..........and probably everyone here on the boards has too.

Which raises the question - how and why did you end up going into non-public places and getting ejected by security orbs?

Peggy Paperdoll: Not at all. I've never been ejected by a security orb that I can recall; I haven't really encountered them (I don't exactly explore SL on foot...).

For me it's usually been while innocently flying along.

For your information: The linux version is still Alpha software.

I did not find your name in Jira, so I suggest to make yourself familiar with the jira interface and report your findings. That way you will help making second life better.

Heheheeh for me it's usually right after I've helped a person set up their security system. I see the chat of it starting up and 15 seconds later kicked, lol. It's usually followed by an IM about "I'm so sorry and such", all part of the fun of being tech support :D

You can get ejected by a security orb by flying threw the air and just runing into it. *splat* falling from the air in some unknown land I have never been in before.

I'm always getting knocked out of my Huey by those damn things. On a positive note i've found some great shoe stores landing in these random places.

Obviously you seem to think that we should hang out only in public places and you don't even explore SL at all. You're comments/questions are worthless in this thread. I use one of those orbs for my lands myself btw... and there's a night club right next to me... now kid go to bed it's late.

How can you NOT get ejected? Simple answer. You must not explore at all. I get ejected by these stupid things on a regular basis and I never harrass and never trying to get away with anything. Almost always it's while I'm flying around checking things out and exploring. Shouldn't that be part of the fun of SL? I don't mind a 30 second message telling me I'm going to be ejected, but I've been ejected after 5 second warnings and no warnings at all.

I am sad to say I agree with the original poster that I definitely see the worst in humankind present itself in SL. Fortunately I've also seen some of the best. Virtual Starry Night is a great example of the best. Despite my frequent frustrations I'm still hanging on but can't say I fault anyone for leaving.

The OP never made any mention of system specs besides running Debian. For all we know, that machine could be JUST at the minimum specs to log in. Also, anyone who frequents these forums is probably well aware of the fact that SL does not require a mythical "ten thousand dollars computer" to run.

I have to agree with the OP's opinions regarding security orbs. I have a MD500 which I used to enjoy flying long distances. Now, I can barely leave home without getting ejected.

By the way, I don't want his stuff. The crap I already have is probably better. :D
