The title says it all really, I'm curious to what the avatar vertex program setting in the prefs actually does. I'd guess it changes the type of lighting used on the avies but, you know, it's nice to be sure about things. Oh, I was just playing with the 1.7 preview and found it can run at decent framerates (for SL, natch) with a 512 draw distance. How cool is that? EDIT: Until all the objects in the distance have loaded in. Bit premature there.

If memory is correct, I think composite is how many previous av outfits/skins to store for quick access. If you rarely change outfits/avs (like me) you can probably set that to 0.

From: Thili Playfair Im guessing it puts vertex rendering on gpu instead of cpu?. From the limited stuff I found in the wiki that sounds reasonable, newer cards with T&L and all. Thanks for setting me straight, I was going down the perpixel lighting route. From: Max Case If memory is correct, I think composite is how many previous av outfits/skins to store for quick access. If you rarely change outfits/avs (like me) you can probably set that to 0. Something like that, the wiki has 2 entries I found on it: From: someone Changing this setting alters the number of avatars onscreen that are composited, or changed dynamically. Avatars that are composited will show any change they make to their avatar (such as altering sleeve length, etc.); avatars that are not composited will not show changes until they are committed (such as saving an outfit). Lowering this number may improve system performance. Setting this number to 0 disables composites. and From: someone This has to do with how many recent outfits your video card "remembers". If you change your avatar as often as you change your socks, 1 or 2 is fine. If you tend to change avatars mid-sentence, 4 or 5 is a good option. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions to exactly what it means.
