Video Driver errorrs???

Installed my new 8800GTS today and SL gives me a message about unsupported or out of date drivers and closes itself. I have the latest Nvidia Drivers for Win XP and 8800GTS installed (apr 17th release date) and it doesnt help. I rolled the drivers back and it still wont work.

I therefore cannot log into SL. I dont believe my mahine is at fault. Is 8800gts unsupported card for SL???

Please Help me log into SL.

All I can tell you is try installing the second newest driver realese from Nivida's website. SL might not support the latest driver for that type of card. You might want to wait until the SL update tomorrow though. Your driver might be supported then.

You would think that a new release of GC would have some backward compatibility?

Did you fully remove all the previous GC drivers and cold boot the PC before installing the new drivers?

assuming you already have version 2.0 and upto date with 'updates' from Microsoft?

Is there not some kind of command line work around to this error.

My Geforce go 7900 gtx ran fine under windows XP. I upgraded to Vista and the drivers that Toshiba (my laptop maker) provided were horrible. It wasn't just SL but pretty much everything ground to a halt.

I've since managed to use a modded INF file on the latest beta drivers (165.01) and they run beautifully (well almost at XP rates) once again. Trouble is I'm now getting the "out of date video card drivers" error message from second life.

Is there anything I can do? Rolling back to the manufacturer drivers simply isn't an option they are so poor.

I run the same configuration, WinXP (latest updates and SPs) + 8800 GTS. All worked fine since I entered SL with this machine. It ran perfectly with the old 8800GTS drivers, it runs perfectly with the new ones (ForceWare 158.22). So I presume it has nothing to do with your 8800 GTS. By the way, Intel and NVidia are much more recommended to run SL with than AMD and ATI although I'm sure that there are such systems which also work perfectly well.

Again, I cannot help you but I can asure you that it has not anything to do with your 8800 GTS ! The fault has to be somewhere else.

Since when has there been a problem with AMD and SL? I would like to see some references of this claim, I'd be interested to know. I have always used AMD since that is what 'my guy' recommends, is there something I don't know or have missed on the forums?

I have never heard or read anything about AMD not working with sl.. AMD processors run cirlces around Intel any day of the week anyways..
But.. thats one of those coke versus pepsi scenarios lol... it' s all about personal preferance .

I had the same problems, but after i reinstalled the actual (158.22) driver it worked.

nou nou no, doesnt matter, what is recommened is Nvidia for SL, since it has alot less issues with opengl then ati's, usually if its crashing its vista+ati, then you can talk about crap drivers \o

Cpu doesnt matter at all, long as its not a cyrix : p

Is there anywhere I could just downloar supported video drivers? I really miss playing.
