Hi, My old desktop was struggling, so I went for an upgrade. Now running AMD64 X2 4400, with 2GB ram, and Nvidia 7900 GTX graphics. performance is excellent, but I have an annoying problem which is not consistant.
After playing for a while, the image becomes jittery. What seems to be happening is that the frames are displayed out of sequence, that is 1,2,3,5,4,7,6 etc.
This is obviously a client side issue, it only seems to affect rotation, scrolling textures and anims, but it really does make things look messy. scrolling textures jump back and forth while heading in the correct general direction. When I walk and swing my arms, they jump between random positions.....
This does not happen all the time, so I'm stumped - temperatures in the box seem fine, mem usage seems ok. All my drivers are the latest. does anyone understand what the problem might be?
Thanks
neb

Thanks Thili, switched to 1 core, and it is fine at the moment. It seems odd though that it was previously a gradual degradation. Would be ok sometimes, but creep in after a few hours in sl - pointing maybe to something slowly increasing(slow mem leak? caching too much?), forcing the use of the second core Now I'm gonna have to ignore my alloted tasks for the day and play sl to see if the problem is really fixed. neb

Little program you can use if you have any games that wont work properly on dual core, rare now tho but if it jitters and stuff set affinity to 1, this prog can change between 8 cores. http://www.majorgeeks.com/WinLauncherXP_d870.html

I seem to have that problem too... Can you explain what are "cores" so I can understand and maybe download the program? Thank you!!

Sure, if you have a dual core cpu ,Amd x2/intel ones (dont know names) , you can set 1 core to run a program or both , in some older progs/games running on 2 cores it can be wierd so setting to 1 usually fix it. Heres a screenshot of my task manager, im currently running Eve online ; core 1 Secondlife ; core 2 + Photoshop +Firefox(6 pages) no it does lag me, look at total memory Sure i can let windows do this auto , but it tend to put half on each core, and SL for me make it yittery, so 1 core each and i dont notice if they are up no slowdowns , can run 2 Secondlife each on its core , wont get any slowdowns (pc get hot tho, as 2 SL stresses it alot) Dual Core Cpu's are very nice if you do alot of things at once and dont want things to slow down, theres not that many games that support it yet, one big game that does is Oblivion (up to 4 cores) Jitteryme video kinda hard to see but if i set affinity to 1, its way smoother
