I've been able to play SL using 1.6.12, but no way to launch 1.7: the program exits with no message 1/2 a second after I see the "detecting hardware" small window. No process left running when I look thru the task manager.

I applied all win XP patches

I applied the latest ATI Radeon X300 drivers

Everything was ok before 1.7. please HELP !!!

Your's truly,

Same problem here, i'm also in France, though i don't think it is a cause of the problem. I'm on win xp, sempron 2200+ with 512mb and ati radeon 9550

I've had similar problems as well. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X600 and am running Windows XP. Every time I try and log in it crashes at the Precaching part. Does anyone know what the heck is making this happen?

Ditto here. Cant get in because it crashes RIGHT after precaching. However I did clear cache. Did uninstall and fully reinstall. Same issues.

This happened to me with one avatar but not another, that is how I knew something was up with me and not SL. Completely uninstall SL and reinstall the full version from the downloads page. This cleared the problem right up. i also recommend not using any modifiers or shortcuts untill you log in straight off the logon screen the first time.
