I seem to be having trouble since using a laptop with SL. I honestly cannot get a frame rate better than like 5 fps....Its like a picture movie. The Acer 5100-5674 runs a Dual Core Amd TK-53 (1.7GHz) I have it upgraded to 2gbs of ram. and a 512 Ati Radeo Xpress 1100 Shared Memory Video Card. I don't quite understand while I'm getting these framerates....Any tips?

The Radeon 1100 Xpress is most likely the main reason why your fps are in single digits. SL is a major resource hog, and the 1100 Xpress was never really meant to do such heavy work. It shares system memory, which in turn slows down the whole system. SL will run faster if you turn all graphics settings down to minimum. I'm not 100% sure, but if you use the Windlight client, you can turn on avatar impostors, which will give you a slight performance boost when you are near crowds.

In the Linden Blog, there is a chart showing average FPS for lots of different GPU cards. Go take a look at yours. As Teeny says, you are probably doing about average.

I enjoyed SL for a year at 3 fps before I got a better machine. It just takes some getting used to. If you want to play combat games...well, no, that will never be much fun. But for standing still and chatting with a small number of people...yes that can still be just fine.
