I just messaged char Linden about this error I am getting. Now I am told that because of this I have to replace and or track down these vendors and go ask for new Items. This is not a problem with them or because of them (vendors). These Items worked prior to latest patch. Now what I'm saying is these are Items LL should have records of and be replaced by Linden labs. reason i say this is .... If someone makes a mistake such as not paying for there account and or an auction item (being a fine) they 1 get canceled and 2 for auction it results in a fine..... Seems to me If we make a mistake we get penalized ..... if you (LL) make a mistake .... well you get or have to do what ? This is not fair and I take it very harsh that you (LL) have these type of attitudes toward your customers. Not fair never will be and never was for a company to mess up things and not make it right. Slikrazor <---- totally unhappy SL customer.

It is really starting to scare me how frequently this is occuring, and how Linden Lab has no ability to restore (or protect) inventory items. Data loss is not acceptable in any environment, especially in one where we have no ability whatsoever to back up our own inventories. This is by far the most serious system error we face, and it seems to be getting worse.

Apparently this has been happening to a lot of people; I wonder why it hasn't happened to me? I guess I'm just lucky ...

Yes totally I agree. The one and only reason (LL) doesn't do this is because they must feel everyone is lying when they're (LL) told items are missing. My second thought on this is that I have posted about (LL) and people say they care about us as players/customers, Well so far they've (LL) have not helped me one single time as of yet. In my honest opinion this shows they don't care and will not do anything about their mistakes. All my items are In my inventory and have been bought from the vendors. I don't want and never will have known copy's of any vendors Items if I did have something and a vendor knew it was copied I would delete it. So far i really love the game overall maybe this isn't good to say (just reinforces LL) that we will continue playing but the true heart of this game is the players totally the very best I've ever had the pleasure to cyber with. This coming from a 4+ yrs of on line MMO of some type.BTW to (LL) you have a great deal more bugs from this last patch than just my small (in LL's opinion)bug. This is the tip of the iceberg.Me I'm just a small irritation to (LL) ...... LL if you care please message me .... If not I'll see no responce. I'll be ingame for several hrs to come.

it's not quite true that they (LL) don't care or that they (LL) will not do anything to fix problems with their (LL's) game. in the past they (LL) have shown themselves (LL's selves) to be very concerned with the needs of the community but at the same time they (LL) are not omniscient and can't know everything at all times. this issue has been brought to their (LL) attention many times lately and it's pretty certain they (LL) will be addressing it soon as much as they (LL) can. it only makes sense because they (LL) depend on the community for their (LL's) existence so it's unreasonable to think they (LL) would ignore their (LL's) own customers let alone actively not care what happens to them or go out of their (LL) way not to help. it might be that you (slikrazor Shark) are overreacting in this situation although i (Zuzi Martinez) could be wrong and they (LL) really are evil in which case good job with the negative post about them (LL) because now you're on their (LL's) list.

Losses Mounting...
01-27-2005 15:55
I lost stuff in the Grid Bring-Down of just yesterday. Stuff I'd picked up a few minutes before the "out of the Pool" notice popped up.
A few months ago I lost part of my house's furninshing including 1/2 my " cough cough " pose ball collection (extensive, mind you). Oh, did I lose complete sets? Oh No No No. Just the M or F out of various sets, just to add insult to injury. I've lost, at my best estimate maybe 8,000L in objects, that's what, $ 32 USD? or a number of lifetime memberships? or how many months of base-tier premium memberships? No recourse, no refund and no way to get stuff back. If I could store my stuff on my web site isp or on my PC, believe me I would jump at the chance! Isn't that basic web-biz practice? HELP! ![]() _____________________

I've lost things as well and also went got the same response from the Lindens which I think is totally unfair. Its not my fault the items were lost (i.e dance braceletL$300..28 dances averaging L$150 to L$250..my web particles L$200 and numerous jewelry, shoes and anim balls). If I had lost something I'd replace it. Basically it seems we are told..aww..too bad so sad. With everything going wrong with SL lately...I think many will consider putting their time and energies elsewhere.

lost content
01-27-2005 20:29
To answer your questions.
Yes content has been lost; related to specific system failures which have been identified and addressed. We do indeed take the issue of lost content seriously, the last thing we want to see happen is for any of you to lose content. The things we are doing to address the issue are: working to stabilize the system by adding hardware capable of handling the expanding load, patching any bugs related, and planning ways to better safeguard data in the future. Important: if you receive errors related to inventory that you report it via the bug reporting tool or by sending mail to support@secondlife.com with as much detail as possible. Reporting will allow us to track when, how, and why content was lost - aiding in the process to make sure it does not happen again. _____________________

i very thankfully have never lost inv, but my GF has had the problem several times, including her AV disappearing, and well over 100 textures lost (which btw the reply when IMing a Linden about it was that you must have deleted them by accident. only they weren't in the trash).
uncle, i understand that LL wants to fix the bugs causing the problem, which is essential, but that doesn't address all the lost inv that has already happened and will continue to happen until a fix is in place. its not like this is a new bug how long until a fix is in place? basically your post says its a problem we are fixing it but we aren't doing anything if you have lost items. jester _____________________

I'm going to lose my partner, and my land because of this - HELP
01-28-2005 07:23
The real important question, is if the Lindens are unable to restore the actual items. What recourse does the player have as far as compensation. The items lost do translate into real US dollars!!
My partner lost about 50$ real US dollars, and he's like livid. We can't continue building and furnishing our house because his items are gone ( we could if we spend more money but we shouldn't have to if it's not our fault we lost items ). He's so livid he's talking quitting or tiering down to basic.. If he does that I lose my home or I have to tier up to take the slack, something I can't do. Will there be a recourse? I don't want to lose him or my current holdings. (Really upset about this myself) _____________________

The script one is really old bug, happens on failed teleports (just recompile if you can to fix)...but the losing items is new and really bad...
A friend lost her Skin when she tired to wear it and got that error message, and poof 5000L skin gone...Linden should be responsible to this, not the vendor, but lucky here the vendor was really good and gave a new one...but still sad that Linden feel no responsibility for me losing items, while they want to raise the real life cost of my L but not protect the stuff I buy with that higher prices L.. |

Me being fairly new I would've thought that it should be taken care of by them. Am I being unfair I think not ... all I asked was my items replced they show in my inventory so i wasn't asking for a handout. Just was asking them to be fair. Once again I'll ask you Zuzi as i have asked others .... you say LL cares give me one example .... so far I haven't had one single comment as to how they care in anyway shape or form. As far as being on their list i could care less. I've spoke to them about other issues. Their refusal to help in any of them says to me they'll not do anything when it concerns me ... but if it concerns them yes hell yes they'll do something. |

The vendors are being held accountable for the error
01-28-2005 14:25
This was my partner's response from Linden Labs. There have been specific failures in the Second Life system which we have recently addressed and corrected. Some of these issues have recently resulted in lost content. Many of our primary goals in Second Life development are to better stabilize the system by adding more (and better) hardware to handle the expanding load; patching any bugs related to asset control; and planning ways to better safeguard data in Second Life in the future. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide reimbursment for lost objects purchased in Second Life. However, many of the vendors in Second Life are very willing to replace objects lost through system error, often at no additional cost. This is quite unfortunate indeed. It looks like he will be leaving and I will have to tier down since I can't afford to tier up. I am quite depressed now. The bright future I envisioned is gone. I probably am one of those that lived too vicariously through SecondLife. But it disappoints me that as a Premium Account holder we are afforded no protections or recourse. Until today I was a skepitical Optimist in the LL court. I would like to hear from some of these vendors to see if they really don't mind replacing all these objects lost? I'm assuming they have records of purchases? It's a lot of leg work on their part to correct an issue that was no fault of their own...and quite frankly I don't understand why they would want the hassle. _____________________

Believe me, we would like nothing better than to be able to recover your lost content today.
At this time, the reasons why we can not recover from these errors have to do with the way in which the data was lost. There simply is no record of it to follow up on and no way for us to track who lost what content when. Unfortunately, because of and in addition to the above, we have no way of verifying and knowing the value of content which was lost. What we are doing is identifying exactly how the data was lost and how we can improve the system to safeguard against future losses; this is a top priority as we work to improve the system to scale well as we grow. Our deepest apologies for the loss. Please understand we are doing everything we can to prevent this in the future. Again I'll say this ... youknow it' happening .... So why don't you help us as players regain these lost items ? If we report these bugs does that not help you make a better game ? .... yes it does wich translates into more players ---> more $$'s for you ... but this still doesn't help me recover what i have lost. i work for what i get scratching up a little here and there. I don't go for certain money makiing jobs simply beacause I don't feel comfortable doing them. So i create I buy i trade I sell... now heres something you (LL) haven't considered ..... how can we keep doing this If we kepp losing Items. If the system is unstable and we lose all I'm asking is you to help us regain these items. This bug is a long standing one of wich I've heard several long term players say has been ongoing. In my case caring is replacing> Bottom line It's a wonderful player driven game I'll continue to play till I can't take the losses I guess our losses acceptable to you but my loss is not acceptable to me BTW I don't want and never have asked for a handout just asking for fairness is all._____________________

It's good to know that LL is serious about solving this problem as quickly and reliably as possible... to prevent similar things happening in the future, we *really* need some method of backing up our inventory. It would be extremely convenient and save everybody (vendors, players, and LL) a lot of hassle... just set up some basic info, and each time you log off, this utility takes a minute to back up your inventory (names and ID numbers, plus maybe date added) to your hard drive. If a bug or a crash deletes something, just pull up the most recent backup.

Well since i posted this thread i have learned the vendors DO have records of what has and has not been sold. I was told this so i'll take there word ,Any how I feel very good that LL is looking into this and that they have replied Thank You uncle linden very much Makes me feel better ... but since i posted this thread I've found even more Items lost
... anyhow I'll not be expecting any help in the future so no more reporting bugs for me I'll leave things as is and hope they get better with time we'll see. My honest take on this is .... nothing lasts forever specially on a computer.... here today gone tomorrow. I just don't like unreliability It's one reason i build my own computer... so if It doesn't work right I have no one to blme cept me BTW all these items are still in my inventory so yes they can be verified And lastly i asked for nothing more than just replacement ... i never did and never will ask for money ... If I'm broke I'll be like that till I've earned won or sold something. |
