Ok, well i have tryed -everything- you chould think of to try and solve this problem, from cacheing, to drivers, even the avatar vertex.

This problem started as soon as I updated the ATI video card i have ( 9800 Pro )
The update is the catalyst, 5.8 the newst and most recent one. I got it, then suddenly as soon as i jump into SL, my avatar's main body vanishes! If someone has delt with this problem before, please notify me of a solution....and yes i have even downgraded my drivers just to get a responce, Nothing, same problem.. please ,please help!!

I have provided a photo of what i see compaired to others...

I have seen this happen with some people, and with myself from time to time, sometimes parts of me look blurry and remain like that, sometimes I see nothing of someone except the jewelry or shoes, sometimes nothing else.

The way I have fixed this is simply dragging and droping my AV stuff onto myself again, this places everything onthe character once again and usually resolves everything.

Keep in mind that though you can't see yourself, to others you might look well, its just a weird kink of SL which I assume would fit within packet loss problem. :)

I have had this too but I have it happen more with looking at other av's. I have had bumping into them work once but usually only a tp can solve this. In each case the av looked normal to all others.

Hmmm... what happens if you: change your active group title to another group, or none at all.

Is this bug STILL around? Dang... But yeah, try changing your active group and see what happens. That's always seemed to fix this sort of thing in the past, for whatever odd reason.

You know, it's just not fair. Many exotic avatar designers would KILL for the ability to have invisible av skins, and must instead resort to buggy invisiprims. Yet the most unsuspecting users get handed this very ability by sheer accident! :( :p

(Personally, I think partially invisible furry avs would be all the rage given the chance)

One should not confuse the classic "Other Person's Avatar Skin Is Invisible, Only Their Attachments Show, It Gets Fixed With A Change Of Active Groups" problem with the one that is the subject of this thread, which is "My Own Avatar Skin is Invisible".

I have had the "Other Person's Avatar Invisible" problem at least 500 times but only only had my own avatar be invisible maybe 5 times in over two years.

I just asked Live Help about this, and Deanna Linden suggested unchecking the Avatar Vertex box in the Edit/Preferences/Advanced Graphics.

Oh... well in that case, I stand corrected! Very interesting. Thanks for the info, Sue!

I don't mean to imply that one shouldn't try changing their active group and for that matter teleporting to a different sim, they are easy things to do.

It is said that in some cases when updating video card drivers it is important to uninstall the current drivers before installing the new ones.

If you have a problem after updating drivers that you didn't have before it thus might be important to uninstall the just installed updated drivers before trying to revert.
