Hello, I've been having crashing problems ever since 1.6.3 was implemented, I've been told repeatedly that I need Service Pack 2 for WindowsXP Home Edition, but I'd like to know if any other SP1 users are able to still run the game without crashing that happens as frequent as breathing.
Here's my system specs;
AMD Althon 3000+ (2.175GHz) 512MB DDR RAM GeForce 4 MX Integrated GPU 64MB WindowsXP Home Edition, SP1
So... anyone else on SP1 without the suffering?

Frequent Crashing

SL is a resource hog.... you absolutely need more RAM. Bring it up to at least 1.5 or 2.0 GB of memory and you will see marked improvement.

Actually, I run the game fine at home with 768MB. BUT, I don't run other programs while I run SL. Not even instant messengers, and certainly not Photoshop or the like.
The integrated GeForce 4mx may be a bottleneck. The 4mx's are Geforce 2's for all intents and purposes (our bare minimum), and the integrated cards have shown even worse performance in Second Life.
We do recommend SP2; with the exception of the firewall, it features a lot of core engine enhancements that work well with Second Life. So far, the problems I've seen from SP2 folks, regarding SP2, are all related to the Windows Firewall being on.

XP Pro SP2 1 GB RAM
SL runs fine with Photoshop, Outlook and IE open.
For security's sake... get on SP2 now and all follow-up patches now!

From: Lee Linden The 4mx's are Geforce 2's for all intents and purposes (our bare minimum), and the integrated cards have shown even worse performance in Second Life. Technically speaking, the GeForce 4 MX isn't a GeForce 2, it's a GeForce 2 MX. As a former owner of a GeForce 2 GTS, I just want to point out that there's a BIG difference. (Though I guess in terms of memory bandwidth and transistor count, the GeForce 4 MX 440 would be about on par with the GeForce 2 GTS. Oh well. ) Ignatius, I think you'll find a lot fewer problems with SP2. If the reason you haven't upgraded yet is because your particular installation of Windows seems likely to run into some problems when upgrading, I suggest you find a new one.

You mean Uncle Philip hasn't doled out 64-bit systems to the overworked (and most likely underpaid) LL staff? I am running XP Pro SP2 on an Athlon 64 FX-53 with 1GB of RAM. I routinely run PhotoShop (and Photo Impact at times), IM, SL and multiple browsers concurrently with nary an SL crash.

I run an Athlon 2800+, 512m RAM, and an Nvidia Fx5500 card. I run Windows XP Pro and use other protection methods than Service Pack 2, thankyewverymuchMicro$oft. When SL is working fine-- my system runs just fine... for HOURS on end. I'm on this system at least 4-6 hours a day, often 12 or more.
However, when SL is runny flaky, it tells, not only on my system but everyone around me. I crash when everyone else crashes.
So I'm sure upgrading to 2 gigs of RAM might help... but that's a lot of money to spend on recreation... when I will likely still experience the same problems I'm having now. If you have a decent system... I doubt your problems are client-side.

On the off chance that you're under the impression that Macs don't have updates, and you're crashing, try "Software Update" under Applications/System Preferences. If you're just joking about the service pack thing, just ignore this.

crashes
05-13-2005 16:18
I'm running A Dell XPS with 2G RAM, 4Ghz, and a Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition... no other program gives me problems, but SL crashes on me, and SL refuses to let me in for hours on end sometimes. At other times, things run just fine. Oh, I'm running Windows XP Pro, SP2. I am very tired of spending more time trying to get in, than actually BEING in, some nights.
Last night, I spent two hours trying to get in, then when I DID get in, my avatar was moving strangely, I'd move her forward, and she'd jump sideways. WTF? I couldnt fix it by relogging, because it would have taken another two hours.

Running fairly low-end spec machine (P4 1.7GHz, 512MB RAM etc) with Windows Home Edition SP1 and have never had the game crash once, while in the game and moving around etc. I've had the game force me to logout due to Teleport issues and an eventual critical mass of client-side lag, and just recently over the last few days I have been crashing at the "Waiting for response..." message during login but apparently that has more to do with the client not being able to contact the overloaded login database.
I do have all the latest drivers and updates for my hardware, including my network card, and I have kept up to date with all of the Windows critical and security updates through the Automatic Update utility, not including SP2.

Freeze and Crash
05-14-2005 10:54
I am freezing up every few minutes, or sometimes seconds and then redisplay with invisible AVs. I see custom eyes, wigs, shoes, jewelry, but not skin or clothing.
I have a 2.8ghz Xeon processor in a Dell workstation, 1.5gb ram, and XP Pro.
I contacted in game Lindens for help. These are some of the things they suggested I do. And, some of the things I've done with Dell's Support. Nothing has made any improvement in my game performance.
I have updated my driver for the Nvidia Quadro4 900 SGL and confirmed I have the latest version of Direct X.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I have cleaned out cache and temp files. I even defrag'd.
I sent 4 different secondlife.log file to support.
I am not having any problem with any other programs.
These problems started Wednesday morning. I had a trouble free day on Thursday until midnight, and they've started all over again.
Any other ideas, anyone? Who can I turn to now?
