Does anyone know if having either a cable provided telephone service (similar to vonage) or vonage prevent someone from using SL's voice? I've got someone who seems to have problems- we've gone over firewalls, etc. so I am curious if that is a possiblity.
Any help is appreciated- my googlefu is not functioning (probably related to the nyquil I took)

I have vonage and have used voice here also... no apparent problems.
Maybe they should test their connection speeds.

Should be no problem. i have a few SIP clients that I use (similar to Vonage) and Skype as well, they don't interfere.
SL voice did, however, require that all the volume controls in windows as well as SL's client be turned up to max or nearly so. This is unique in my VoIP experience; probably something about the spatial voice, possibly the fact that the laptop I play SL on just has integrated audio, no voice rendering capability.

OK I thought so since my mother has cable telephone (voip) and i was able to useit visiting her. However a friend has a weird black console box pop up in the background with it attempting to authorize against vivox's servers and they can hear themselves but not other people and others cannot her them
I've been trying to help but we've walked through everything and yet...no dice. However they do do a voiptest from the SL wiki and they get a 1.0 so it's very likely even though they have a broadband connection for some reason it's throttled or not functioning well enough for them to voice.
Any suggestions, help, etc. I've sent them to voice mentors as well after doing a reinstall b/c that black console box is weird.
Thank you!

ok so vivox is the technology supplier for SL voice ... sounds like a firewall problem. SL voice is a separate program, do you perhaps need to give it access thru the firewall? Literally called "SL Voice.exe".
You also need port 5060 open, but if other voip is working, it probably is already.
