Hi,
Is it normally slooow to download the client software? It's only about 33 mega bytes and I can get downloads speeds upto 2 mega bytes but its only downloading at about 8k second.
Also when I first registered I was told I would be sent an e-mail with a link to activate my account which I did receive but when I first clicked on the link it came up with the website was down to maintenance or something along those lines, I tried again later and it just loads in the Second Life home page, is this normal? I was expecting it to load a page saying I have now activated my account. I not sure if my account is fully activated now.
Thanks in advance
Mach

Sometimes, the downloading can slow down quite a bit, peak period maybe.
As for the verification link, I do remember getting one when I signed up. But if you are able to login without any problem, then I guess it should be alright and verified.

Thanks for the replies,
I managed to download the client software in the end, started of at 80k then slowly dropped down till it reached a 64k a second download speed.
I managed to have a brief wander around SL, I don't know if you start at the same place every time you log on to SL but the first time I logged on I was on a round walkway and their was several directions I could go, their was a castle nearby. Anyway I thought I try a try and do a bit of flying at first and landed on the castle and walked around that and got to a sign on a wall read it and then some force stopped me from moving, I could not walk, run or fly away. Hope when I log on next I can move again.

You can set the region where you want to login to.
One way is to by setting your home location. The other is by setting it at the login page from the Preferences_>General->Start Location.

Hope when I log on next I can move again. Your download sounds as if you were having some ISP issue - hope it doesn't happen again, that is certainly not enough to run SL, for one thing! Welcome to SL! A few tips: -- When you login to SL, you have a choice of starting at: > Your "home location" > Where you last were, or > Any region you want. There is a preference setting that puts a little pulldown for these on the login screen, it is in Edit (I'm talking about the Edit menu at the top of the screen when you are logged in)/Preferences/General tab, the "start location" check box. You can change your "home" location, but not just to anywhere. Maybe worry about that later? The force that stopped you may have been a security setting on someone's private property. People in SL own land, and many in residential areas set various settings or run scripts that disallow different types of avatars from just wandering through. Most of SL is, however, either commercial or open land. I would recommend TPing to a park or somewhere else nice -- perhaps the Botanical Gardens http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Botanical%20Gardens/194/60/38The force might also have been "lag" ... if your 'slow download' thing happened again, that is what it would have looked like.
