Increase memory?

My client keeps on crashing, and informing me that it is out of memory, that I need to free some up.

Does this refer to RAM, or to virtual memory, or to cache? How can I increase the memory so that this stops happening to me?

I'm using a Dell PE 400SC, 2.8 GHz, 512 RAM, ATI R9200.

Can someone help me troubleshoot this? Thanks.

Add more REAL memory (can increase swap file size, but that will just slow things down more)...

Or in the preference, under options (I think) make sure you have SMALL texture cache enable if you have 512 or less memory...will make things quicker as well as less swapping of ram to HDD...

Hope that helps a little..

Aha, thank you michael. I switched the HD from one computer to another, the new computer had faster processor but less RAM. I hadn't lowered the texture cache size. Seems to be better now. Thanks :)
