Hi Coco, sounds good. Dell is good. I'm jealous I forget what the GS of the Nvidia stands for but am sure it's well capable. How many RAM slots will it have do you know? Just that in my mind I've been hypothesizing a ≥2 Gb memory for my dream machine. I registered in October last with 512Mb which 'just' ran. Upping to 1Gb made a huge improvement. Scanning others' threads I've been keeping an eagle eye out for any feedback from increasing from 1Gb Nothing else I can think of. A friend says SATA is a huge improvement but he had a newer and better CPU anyway so a little questionable but like for like, they must be faster. I shall wait to hear your report, good luck BTW I tried to answer your PM but reported you were maxed out? I was only going to say I was rising to Chri5 Sommes' scathing generality. Regards

And - what is SATA? coco Memory (aka RAM) for your computer comes in little cartridges that fit into a 'slot'. Depending on how your computer is made, it usually can have 2, 3, or 4 'slots', in which these memory cartridges can fit. According to your specs, Dell is giving you a total 1 GB of memory, made up of two 512 MB cartridges. The question is, does this computer have 2 slots total, or 4? If it has only two, that means that you wont be able to upgrade your memory later to a higher amount without replacing all of it, since both of the slots will be in use when you buy it. If it has 4 memory 'slots', then there's room to add 2 more cartridges of memory later. That's why its important. 1 GB of memory is fine for SL, although if you can afford to put in more as an option, say, 2 GB, SL will run even better for you. SATA is a type of hard drive - most newer computers come with this type of drive. It doesn't really make a significant difference for Second Life.

This will fly, though I agree that more memory would be very good, especially if you run Photoshop at the same ime, or if you run multiple SL clients simultaneously. A good way to answer the memory slot question is to go to a memory vendor such as www.crucial.com and See how much a memory upgrade will cost. It is easiest to just get 2GB from Dell in the first place, and with all the bucks you are spending, I think you must have 2GB. It *might* be cheaper to buy the memory expansion from Crucial. They have online instructions, plus adding memory is one of the easiest hardware things to do.

OK, thanks, I will try to find out how many slots it has. Or just order 2GB to begin with! coco P.S. OK, Lee and everyone, I'm sold! 2GB it is. Thanks y'all!
