So about 8 hours ago sl crashed while i was using my main avi. Since then i cannot log in with this avi, but i can with my alt, on 3 different machines and on 2 different versions of sl, also using the alternative viewer recommnded. It does one of 2 things when i try to log in. either. It gets right htru the loggin in process, sits on downloading clothing for a few moments then loads but immeditaly turns grey and tells me the region is going down and i have been logged out (no matter how many regions i try) or it gets about 3 quarters of the way thru logging in and the whole client just shuts down, vanishes, no error messgaes or anything at all. I can log in with my alt.... but then who wants to use thier alt all the time, it has no life! But this suggests its not a client error. I have tried 3 PCs, all decent spec, all with fresh installs of SL (all give the same results, all allow my alt in and not my main) I have cleared my cache I have tried 2 different versions of SL I have tried the alternative viewer everyone recommends (nicholaz) Im running out of options and begining to morn the loss of my main avi, several buisnesses, 10 months of building work, a massive (and expensive) inventory and quite a bit of cash. I have a basic account, which i guess means the lindens wont really be interested in helping me Please help Thankyou in advance. Sky x

Hmmm that sounds not so good... I doubt if someone on the forums can help you with this. Best is to open a support ticket: https://www.secondlife.com/community/support.php

Ty, i have done so, and upgraded to premium to ensure they at least read it..
anyone any ideas how long these tickets take to be processed? and in the mean time if anyone has any suggestions of anything i can try, i would appreciate it.
Have people heard of users losing the avatars entirely in this manner or under similar circumstances??
Thanx Sky

Clear cache
08-23-2007 08:29
If that were happening to me, Sky, I would be sure to completely purge my cache. It might even help to relocate it on your hard drives, move it from drive C: to another drive (or a different folder), for example. This is done in the Preferences for Network. Or reduce its size to something like 200 or 300 Megabytes. The cache seems less stable above that size, seems to acquire chronic data corruptions.[/INDENT]

Just to be completely explicit, I think Govindira is recommending that you delete, not simply clear, your cache (if you haven't done so already). That is,
1) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and delete the contents of your Temp folder. 2) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life and DELETE THE ENTIRE FOLDER.
(from a Llinden's email to me)
If you do this, personally I would see no need to move it as well.
The only other thing I don't see you mentioning is, to be sure you're logging into some other sim than the one you logged out from when this happened. Tho I would bet it is not sim related, it sounds weird and so you should, as you have, try everything!
And, no, I have never heard of this before. Good luck, it sounds truly weird.

Deleting the client as describe above does not make you lose what you have in SL. Those things are stored on the server. The local copy is just downloaded to make things faster for you. After deleting the local cache try a reinstall of the client.

@Evita: no you lose nothing. In fact, things you have lost to SL *might* come back. The actual database is kept on the servers, yours is just a local copy that SL can rebuild any time it disappears.
This enables you to, for example, log in from a friend's machine and all your stuff shows up there too. After a delay to build a new cache there.

Hmm... so now it gets odd
So the problem persists, but now i find out that when i log into a region... and it tells me the region is going down and i have been logged out... im taking the region with me.
Let me explain... i have 2 friends stood in a particular region (we have tried several regions) they tell me the region name and they wait... i log in to that region, and at the same time my 'region is going down' message comes up... they both crash with the same message...and when they try to log back in.... they get moved to a nearby region.
We first did this... by accident... in a very busy region... when my friend returned, the place was empty. We have tried a few quiet places since.
now this... is weird
I can demonstrate... just tell me where u r!

HAHA you are now the most powerful person on the grid! You can blackmail LL! Tell them that you'll login randomly all over the grid until they fix inventory loss. PUH-LEEEEEASE
It's funny because it's true ... *sigh*
Who knew it was possible?

I can confirm shes crashing regions wherever she goes.
We tried one place for sky to log on we crashed, I went back and spoke to other people and they had crashed with the same message at the same time.
Infact when I went there, there was about 15 people after sky logged on and crashed everything, I went back and no one was there.

Look hon, this is kind of buried off in technical issues. I would start a new thread in "Resident Answers" titled something like: "Help, I'm typhoid mary!" or "Help or I'll bring your sim down!". That'll get some of the more experienced people to take a look.

Good luck to Sky -- I feel for you (but until it's fixed, please stay away from my region!)
