Occasionally, when I transport to another area, my avatar inexplicably changes from a male white winged anthro tiger with long white hair, to a FEMALE white winged anthro tiger with shoulder-length BROWN hair. A simple sign-out/sign-in fixes it, but it gets a tad annoying, after a while. Anyone know what's happening here? And, for the record, to my knowledge, none of my settings were shown to be changed on the menu during these metamorphoses.

Synjo, that's the default Linden avatar that you're getting (Known as RUTH!!)
You are continually getting RUTHED!!
This happens when the teleport goes to slow, I think, or when some information gets lost. It happens to the best of us and I am sure the Lindens are trying to fix it. Eventually.

While I'll bite my tongue on the fashion statement, this is a problem that's been around a long time. Teleporting will start you out as the "Ruth" avatar when you arrive at the teleporter, then generally change your appearance back into what you should look like.
If this data is not being sent to your client (or is dropped), chances are it's a network or sim-related problem. My first impression would be to check the Debug Menu (Ctrl-Shift-1) for any packet loss.
Luckily for you, your avatar should not appear this way to other users. So if you're concerned about how other people will treat you after a teleport, you should be fine.
And I would guess the "fix" will be in the form of getting data to send faster and more reliably than simply changing the default settings.

The real problem is ....

The real problem with sex change following teleport is not the fact that it happened, the problem is if it occurs without being properly anesthetized. This has been known to produce an unpleasant sensation sometimes referred to as intense pain. The preferred anesthesia, which also provides a relaxing effect, is ethyl alcohol administered orally. A couple of brewskies will generally ease the pain.

quick fix

easiest way to cure "ruthing" is to right click.. go to appearances, then hit "close".
It will take the ruthing as a 'change' and ask if you want to save.
DO NOT SAVE!
You will be back to normal.

No offense against Ruth but maybe the Lindens could include a bag to put over my head until she disappears.

I see Ruth's everywhere !

Hate to say this but others see Ruth too.. so when you tp as Ruth others can see it. Happens all the time to several of my male friends. Just do the appearance, don't save and Ruth poofs. Quite annoying but no permanent damage... well unless someone takes a screenshot to blackmail you.
*hugs*
