Ok, I've only been playing a couple of days so Newbie here, if you feel the need to shout at me please get it off your chest Ok, basically, I was just moving around last night and the Client crashed... not a problem, from what I've read I'm not the only one with that problem However, it seems to have messed up some of the clothes I'm wearing I have an outfit all in one folder so I can just drag it on, but various parts of it mess up various other parts of it. If I put the tattos on it makes my t-shirt dissapear, if I put the Boots on it makes my Trousers change into a totally different pair in another folder, the the black hair just kinda sits on top of my blonde hair from the previous outfit and my eyebrows stay blonde! Kinda annoying since I only just scraped this outfit together really and now it's not working. . . or at least parts of it aren't. Remaking the hair isn't a problem but I'd rahter not have to find money to re-buy the clothes and tatoo. Does anyone have any idea, hints or tips about this please? Would be greatly apprecaited! -Reo

Hiya, and welcome to SL You could try deleting your SL cache file in the first instance- which will force the client to reload cached textures. On the Mac it's at ~/library/application support/secondlife/cache On the PC I'm not sure... C drive, Documents and Settings ? Otherwise, it does sound to me to be a little like a texture baking problem, I've had things a little similar in the past - and good solution there is to edit each (modifyable) item of clothing in turn, in each case tweaking any one parameter just a little, saving the item, then tweaking that parameter back to where it was and resaving the object again. This seems to reset the texturing for that object to what it should be. You can also do this for the skin and hair. Also, you say you have a grouped set of items. I do the same thing actually for quick avatar/outfit changing. Try creating a new folder and regrouping the items into this folder so the inventory structure is updated again. One thing to bear in mind also is that when you drag a folder onto an avatar, rather than just adding additional items to what you already have on, the default behaviour is to discard certain things that are not in the folder, so if you drag on a folder of clothes, hair attachments tend to drop off for example. Embarassingly, the vice-versa is also true Not sure exactly whats causing your problem but the above stuff may offer a few pointers to try I hope... I'm shooting in the dark a little so someone else may have some other suggestions... Best of luck

Reoryn, a warm welcome to SL. Sorry to hear about your avatar messup problems -- hey, it's okay, I've had some of those too. What I usually do, if I can, is make backup folder and label them as [BACKUP] containing essential avatar parts like my Shape. Can you please post screenshots of how things are messed up? A picture is worth 1,000 words after all! What Dee suggested has worked for some of my glitches before. In addition, I would give the following things a go: -Try looking in your Library folder in the Clothing subfolder for the default avs. Try dragging a folder onto you to change avs and see how they look. If they look normal, then you can be relieved it's not a universal problem for you. -Send IMs to the creators of stuff you have on your avatar, and explain the problem and ask for replacements. You will find most quality creators here will oblige you graciously. Leave them an IM, even if they are offline. -When things are fixed, remember to make a [BACKUP] folder! Best of hope with this.

Wow, helpful replies from nice people.... Guess I'm not used to this yet after playing most other games I'll try clearning my Cache when I get home (At work at the moment *hides from boss*). As for the trying one of the default folders, it's only one outfit that does it, I have a Folder with my White outfit in and another folder with a Black one in... The White one works fine, but the black one is the one that messes up. (Well, one thing in the white outfit is dodgy, there is a pair of trousers (pants..I'm a Brit ) in it that for some reason don't attach when I drag the folder on...yet do when I do it manually so that's not really a problem) Thing is about posting screenshots, you can't actually see that there is anything wrong really because it doesn't look messed up, it just is. Like the T-shirt dissapearing when I apply the Tattoo, Then the Tatoo won't show up until I take the T-shirt off...even though you can't see the t-shirt... if that makes sense. hehe. It's not all the items in the folder either, just a select few. When I get home I'll try the Cache thing and tweaking the Properties. Also, is it possible for me to make a backup folder if the items are No Copy? Thank you so much for your time, it's much apprecaited

You're most graciously welcome, Reoryn. It sounds pretty thorough what you intend to do, and I do hope it gets solved soon. Also remember that some items overlap layers. I had an undershirt once that was designed to go onto the jacket layer, and due to a bug not showing icons right, I couldn't tell readily and I was wondering why I couldn't have it and my real jackets on at the same time! As for this question, you can't really make a backup, but what I do is this: I ask the creator if they can send me a special YES-copy, but NO-transfer version. Then I send the NO-copy versions back to the creator as requested. This way, you can replicate many personal copies for yourself. The double plus of doing this and getting to know the maker, is you can make some pretty cool friends this way! They'll be happy to know you like their stuff.

Oh lots of nice helpful people around in SL - you'll see *smiles* > > At work at the moment *hides from boss*). > *Chuckles* - you and me both What you just said also made me think - there is sometimes one hell of a delay in clothing showing up after being selected in inventory, it can sometimes take a couple of minutes (which is indeed very annoying - especially when you just removed rather more than intended and a bunch of avatars are just hoving into view ). Sometimes adding another piece of clothing will influence the loading time of the item originally selected... Just one thought also, have you successfully worn the T-shirt and tattoo at the same time before - because if not they could be on the same (undershirt?) clothing layer if wearing one seems to remove the other... ? Sorry if I'm stating obvious stuff. No Copy items can only have one instance so, no, you can't back those up to a separate folder, but you can certainly do it with your shape and basic SL skin, hair etc as Torley suggested - and as I often forget to do - you should see the state of my inventory, lol - it's like a squirrel burying nuts...

Hey! Thanks again Thing is, it WAS all showing properly until I had 2 client crashes in a row, then it all went a bit Pete Tong. Ahh well. Thank you for the advice on the copyable items, I might just do that

Post overlapped so some of the same answers twice Great idea Torley about No-Copy - I'm forever spending a fortune buying multiple copies of favourite items so I can set up multiple instances.

hehe, Your post hadn't appeared when I re-posted either As I said, yeah, it all looked absolutly fine until the crash, then then items seemed to start having problems with each other... Most annoying. I guess after I've cleared the Cash I'll try re-creating the hair and see if that helps if the cache clearning doesn't Probably the easiest and least expensive thing to play with I did also try waiting ages, but the shirt dissapeared the second I put the Tatoo on and the Trousers changed the second I put the boots on so I figured it wasn't a coincidence
