I know there are a few of these threads floating around but the problem really hasnt been addressed properly or you guys dont know how to fix it.
Basically I double click SL, it says hey file a crash report, I say no it flashes "Detecting Hardware" and quits immediately, gone.
I select "yes" click through it, it sends the error report and then it closes immediately again.
Ok, so I reinstalled it, restarted computer. Doesnt work, ok I do that again 3 times.
I delete my empty cache, doesnt work.
My system specs are as follows
AMD 2000+ Radeon 9600 Pro WINXP SP2.
Now dont post a reply that says "Radeon is the problem buy a geforce they are better" because anyone who still believes that is a retard. Video cards have no affect on whether a program opens. Plus SL has worked perfectly fine up until now.

You did uninstall and then reinstall, I assume?

This is a known issue. If you get in this crash loop you need to uninstall and reinstall.
However, the proper uninstall also includes going to c:\documents and settings\(yourusername)\Application data and delete the contents of the Seccond Life folder.
As always, if you don't have an Application data folder, you need to enable hidden files and folders by going to the Tools menu at the top of the window then Folder Options and, in the View Tab, click the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" button on, then click the Apply button and OK.
This should show the Application data folder. If it doesn't you may need to refresh the Window by hitting F5.
For the more technically inclined, somethng, and I'm not sure what yet, is wiping out the com.dat file we use to initialize communications that's in our Second Life folder. With this gone/corrupted you'll get stuck in the "you crashed" loop.
The problem is, Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel doesn't get the SL folder in Application Data, so if you try and install over, Windows looks in App Data and says "oh look, it's already there, I guess I don't need to install THAT!" which is why you have to manually remove the SL folder from Application data for the re-install to work.

Colin, I know this may sound presumptuous of me, but given how many problems apparently stem from it, wouldn't fixing some of these installer issues be a good idea?
