Hair won't detach or Take Off

I've had this problem for a while, so I'm wondering what I did wrong.

Nice SL residents give us noobs things, one of them being wearable hair--not great hair, but better hair than noob hair. I would and could cycle through the free, wearable hair, wearing and taking off as I wanted.

Since then, I've upgraded to a new shape, a new skin, and bought better hair.

However, the last free hair I was wearing will not detach or let me take it off. My new hair looks fine (I think), but I end up wearing both all the time--at the same time. When I rez in somewhere, I don't start off bald, I start off with the free hair.

The option to take off the free hair is grayed-out when I click my inventory. I cannot throw it in the Trash because I'm wearing it I guess.

I have a new install of the game, a cleared cache, and I have tried detaching everything. I noticed two things when I detached everything: the free hair remained, and my shape and skin did not detach. I'm not sure if that is correct or not.

Help me take off my old hair.

Thanks

You can't wear "no hair at all"

you will need a "baldie wig" to hide your avie hair so that you can wear prim hair on top of that.

Edit:

I meant to say.... you can easily make your own "baldie wig" by right-clicking in an inventory folder to create a New Hair, wear it, edit appearance, and make the hair very very short so that it doesn't show

that's a good idea. I was hoping for some technical thingy i could do to take off the old hair, but as a last resort, I will try what you suggest.

Help make me bald again!

It's not a last resort... it's your only option :)

Fantasy,

Hair consists of several parts: A base, a hair, and optional attachements.

To use my own hair as an example (Zaige's Flippped Out style), i have a brown base, a hair piece, and 2 bangs attachments.

Attachments are things like hair pins, tiaras, or extra hair pieces such as bangs or sideburns, etc. Many attachments are interchangeable or removeable for different looks such as a hair pin one day, and no hair pin the next.

Hairs are also removable and interchangeable, such as Hair down, hair up, hair swept to the side, etc.

When you first join SL, the hair you have is actually a base. The baldie referred to in a prior post is also a base (a bald headed base). The baldie is the most common base IMHO. There are also colored bases. The base for my own hair is a brown base to blend with my dark brunette hair. The base is where i think you are having a problem. The base is not removable. It can only be replaced by another base. Try this. Go find your noob hair (it's icon will look the same as your new hair base)... or the base for the hair that you want to wear... and "wear" it. You should find that you are now no longer wearing the base that you were having issues with.

You'll find that many bases are copyable, so you might find it beneficial to add a base for the hair style you want to wear with a particular outfit, into each "outfit" folder you create. This makes it easier for when you do a quick change.

Thank you, Stephanie. I understand now. Next time I'm in SL I'll check it out.
