Mangled network data

I have been running the same computer for SL for more than a year.

Today, I did a Windows Update.

Now, I am getting this message at random, but often intervals:

"You have been logged out.

The viewer has detected mangled network data indicitive of a bad upstream network connection or incomplete installation of Second Life."

Well, I did as they suggested, by completely de-installing SL and uploading and re-installing. Still happening.

I have a second machine (not nearly as powerful as the main) which runs fine, which likely precludes network issues behind my router.

Anyone have any ideas?

Since the other box works fine, test the faster box for each way it might be different.

<1> Run pings from your faster box to your own router to make sure you have a good connection in your own LAN. Run pings to yahoo and secondlife.com to further check this. Run a few hundred or more pings.

<2> Might you have heat issues with the faster box?

<3> Temporarily try a different network card in the faster box, or locate other NIC drivers and install them as a test.

Good luck

I started having the same problem yesterday. I've been running SL for over 2 years, and it's the first time I've seen that error message. Got it about 5 times last night.

I checked the tech wiki. They recommended defragging the hard drive, so I tried it.

Low and behold...SL runs fine again :)

Winblows updater is not nice to the fragmentation of hard drives....it just loves to put things anywhere it wants to :-/

Doh After thought EDIT:

If you happen to get these issues again and defrag doesn't work, try uninstalling your netcard drivers and reinstall, you must load your drivers off the disk that came with your card. It doesn't work in these cases if you just let Winblows use whatever driver it finds.
